General Operating Tips
WARNING
When pressure is applied to the
stud tensioners, remain at least 3 to
5 meters (10 to 16 ft) from the stud
tensioning cylinder. Never stand in
front of the unit, in the direction in which the
tensioning force is being applied. Failure to
follow these recommendations could result
in serious bodily injury or death.
Illustration 9. Use Adapter (13) And Bushing (12) For
Front Two Cylinder Head Studs.
1. Stay 3 to 5 meters (10 to 16 ft) away from
the stud tensioning cylinders when
pressure is applied. Always position the
pump where the pressure gauge and the
stud can be observed during the nut
removal or installation process.

cylinder onto the stud, make sure there is tensioning cylinder until it is firmly screwed

The minimum thread length is calculated by
multiplying 0.8 times the stud diameter.
NOTICE
If pressure is applied when the stud tensioning
cylinder is not threaded onto the stud, severe
0.8 x Ø damage can occur to the cylinder.

250 mm (10.0 in) radius. A tighter
bending radius or kink could cause
the hose to break, causing possible bodily
WARNING injury.
Personal injury can result
from removing hoses or
quick-disconnect fittings
in a pressure system.
Failure to relieve pressure
can cause personal injury. Do not
disconnect or remove hoses or fittings until
all pressure in the system has been relieved.

stud tensioner, make sure hose (1) is not WARNING

high-pressure. To avoid personal injury, do
not stand in line with the stud tensioner
cylinder group.

9. Never exceed the maximum operating
pressure of the stud tensioning cylinder. B

The maximum operating pressure is
150 mPa (21755 psi). For the actual
pressure required to properly tension the
stud, refer to the appropriate engine

until the piston is fully retracted (bushing
is flush with top of cylinder).
14. Storing the stud tensioning tool group in a
