IT Applications Implemented  on Indian Railways

 Passenger Reservation system (PRS):

This system provides reserved tickets from over 1800 locations and via the internet.
 Freight Operations Information System (FOIS):
This system with the help of main server at CRIS, New Delhi and routers/switches/LAN extenders
manages freight train movements and generation of computerized RR.
 Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS):
This is a complete current ticketing system provides unreserved tickets from over 2100 locations at
present across the country.
 Control Office Application:
Control office function is managed by this application available at 72 control offices.
 Crew Management System:
Crew booking and related functions are managed by this application at 286 major lobbies.
 Integrated Coaching Management System:
This system manages passenger coach movements from 221 locations.

IT Applications under development on Indian Railways

 Asset Management System

such as Locomotive Management System, Coaching Management System, Freight Management
System, and Workshop Management System are at various stages of development.
 Material Management Information System
which will provide a centralized material management for entire Indian Railways is under
development.
 Track Management System
is under development as a pilot project. It will manage all aspects of track maintenance.
TMRS Projects under development with RDSO
(Technology Mission for Railway Safety)

 SIMRAN – (Satellite Imaging for Rail Navigation)

o A real time rolling stock tracking System uses GPS for rolling stock location and public
GSM/GPRS for transmitting this information to the central server.

 On-Board Loco Parameter diagnostic System

o During the run of the train, loco parameters are transmitted to central server for taking
timely action in case of a problem.

 OHE Parameters Monitoring System

o OHE parameters can be monitored from central location
TMRS Projects under development with RDSO
(Technology Mission for Railway Safety)

 Fog vision Improvement Device

o Will involve laser device to have improved visibility of 200 mts - 300 mts in foggy
conditions.

 Bridge Instrumentations

o System design involve measurement of bridge parameters such as stress, strain etc.
during running train. Flood levels are also measured and these parameters are
transmitted to central server.

 Derailment Detection Device

o Device deployed on track, which measures wheel parameters & Hot Box and transmit the
same to the central server.
