Contemporary

Worship Music Leader Posi6on for First Presbyterian Church (FPC) of Napa

FPC Contemporary Service meets every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for an hour of worship using
contemporary music and u;lizing media to worship God in Christ and inspire the faith of those
a@ending. Led by Pastor David Stoker, the Worship Music Leader, musicians and lay folks, our goal is to
create a joyful, authen;c worship experience. We embrace a spiritually healthy mixture of modern
worship songs, and occasional classic hymns. The service is designed to be invi;ng and inspiring,
crea;ng an atmosphere of a loving church family.

Expecta4ons
• Selects the music for the worship service in consulta;on with the pastor. The music is expected
to be inspiring, joyful, memorable, easy-to-learn and easy-to-sing. The music will connect and
engage with the congrega;on.
• Able to inspire congrega;on with ;mes of prayer and sharing between songs.
• The ability and the desire to receive feedback from the pastor and the Contemporary Worship
Commi@ee, adap;ng and refining the music based upon the feedback.

Requirements
• Skilled Chris;an musician and vocalist with the ability to assemble and/or lead other musicians
and vocalists.
• Broad knowledge of musicians, songs and hymns, complemen;ng the main themes of the
sermon with flexibility to fit ;me constraints.
• Organiza;onal skills to ready the Sanctuary for the performance of songs at the worship service,
including slides with verses, performers, equipment and instruments. ATer pastor input and
approval, provide the ;tles of songs and band members in advance to Church Secretary and
pastor.
• Team player, coordina;ng with other key Church staff members and the tradi;onal 9:00 service
and choir as needed.
• Conduct weekly rehearsals in prepara;on for the worship services to insure a professional,
seamless, and inspira;onal service.
• A@end and ac;vely par;cipate in the monthly Contemporary Worship Commi@ee mee;ngs.
• Crea;ve thinker, always striving to engage the congrega;on.
• Maintain contact and availability informa;on for band musicians and singers.
• Available on email and/or by phone with a 48-hour response ;me.
• Commit an average of 8-10 hours per week for rehearsal, service and mee;ngs. Available every
Sunday 9:30 a.m. – 12 noon.

In summary you will know you have been successful when:


• The congrega;on joyously engages with the music, feels the music inspires communion with God,
and remembers the music to inspire and strengthen them during the week.
• The congrega;on can clearly and easily follow the words, learn the words, sing the chorus and
robustly engages in song and praise.
• The church family feels you are a good listener and partner.
• You further our goals of providing a casual, joyous, contemporary, crea;ve, friendly, connected,
family-like se\ng for the worship service.
