PERFORMANCE TASKS (Carlos Nicio)


I. OPTIONAL TASKS

1. BLOG OR PHOTO JOURNALISM (100 points- Individual)


A) Photo-journalism
Take pictures related to social problems either in an urban or rural areas
Write your insights on the causes, effects, and extent of the problem
Write your insights on how the problem should be addressed by schools, government.
Upload/Post your pictures and observations on your social networking accounts.
Ask friends, other students or professionals (teachers, public servant to comment on your
post)
As proof or evidence that your pictures are authentic and not downloaded from other
sources, a posting should contain several pictures or a collage of pics, at least one of them
should have your selfie or an action picture to show that you are indeed the one who took
the pictures

Output: Screen shots of your uploaded materials including that of the comments.
For purposes of completion, a student should have at least 3 postings. These may be
similar or related social problems

2. LINGUISTIC PATTERNS (100 points-by groups of 5 members)


a. Study a particular linguistic pattern (ie. gay language , text language, ,maxims and slogans
painted inside or outside jeepneys, fliptop )
b. How did this particular linguistic patterns developed/evolved from the mainstream
language?
c. Why were they developed?
d. Provide samples of words or expressions from these linguistic patterns?
e. What is the future of these linguistic patters?

Output: Written account/scrapbook of the output of your visit with pictures


Powerpoint presentations documenting your visit and observations.
Audio-visual presentations may be integrated into the slides

II. REQUIRED TOPICS

1. BEING AWARE OF YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY (200 points- Individual/Triads)


Do a study of your own local community, either your own city or barangay.

MAPPING AND LOCATION AND PROFILES


Draw a map of the community showing location, and directions going to the community?
Show demographic profiles of the community (population by gender, age; number of
households, economic profiles)

POLITICAL STRUCTURE
What is leadership structure of the community?
Who are the leaders of the community?
Are there political clans/political dynasties in the community?
Aside from the political leaders are there other individuals or groups who exercise political
power in the community?

SOCIAL STRUCTURE
What are social groups/organizations exist in the place?
Why do they exist? What are their purposes?
Who are the leaders of these groups or organizations?
What are their activities or projects?
What are the social problems of the community? To what extent are they occurring in the area?
How are these problems addressed by the local community and government?

BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS


What are the resources of the community (human, man-made, social, natural, economic)?
What are the economic and business institutions of the community?

CULTURAL PATTERNS
From where did the place derived its name? Are there legends or stories regarding the place?
Feature the historical/heritage sites of the community? What is the significance of the place?
Are there significant cultural activities/ practices of the community that is different compared to
other communities?
Are there cultural artefacts of the community (food, dressing, arts)

Output: Written account/scrapbook of the output of your visit with picture

1. A student should work on at least 800 points of performance tasks the whole semester
distributed as follows:
Required Tasks: 400 points
Optional Tasks: 400 points
