IN A NUTSHELL

Activity No. 1. Environmental science is an interdisciplinary science that ensures a holistic

study and understanding of the natural scope of environmental science and its whole systems.
The study of the environment and human dimensions is an integral part requires deeper
understanding on the role of human towards sustainability as well as the sustainable use of
resources and the growing issue and conflicts between the social, economic, and environment.
Based on the definitions and the essential elements in the study of environmental and the
learning exercises that you have done, please feel free to indicate your arguments or lessons
learned below.
1. The environment is a complex system where people and nature are intertwined, and the
unprecedented growth rate of the human population is the underlying global
environmental problem.
2. Ethics and faith base perspectives often inspire people to engage in natural resource
conservation and management, which eventually influences decision making about
environmental issues, which involves society, politics, culture, economics, values, and
scientific information.

YOUR TURN
3. Most of the environmental problems that we are currently facing today are deeply rooted
from overpopulation. The more human there is, the more environmental resources must
be consumed, leading businesses to exploit the environment.

4. Environmental science is multi-disciplinary. It encompasses a lot of disciplines and

various fields of science that requires different expertise. Thus, it is not enough to limit
one’s self to one subject alone in understanding the relationships of the environments and
its living things.

5. Environmental ethics is important for people to establish the right and wrong decisions
when it comes to the environment. Through ethics, limitations in extracting resources will
be known and the damages dealt in the environment will be mitigated.

6. Freedom of information deemed to be an effective key in helping solve the world’s

environmental problems. Although it does not solve it directly, through mass distributing
information in books, social media, and other platforms, it helped raise awareness
towards people with the conditions of the environment.

7. Environmental quality can sometimes be related to social progress. The more wealthy
and developed a country can get, the more they can have access to technologies and
opportunities to have a better quality of environment.
8. Renewable energies are one of the ways to fight global warming, and thus, its usage
should be highly encouraged among other countries. It cuts carbon dioxide emissions
among engines and switching to a much cleaner source of energy.

9. Sustainability does not only imply environmental conditions. It also pertains concerns in
economy, politics and philosophy, as we strive to maintain balance between the
consumption of our resource needs and the need to preserve the environment.

10. Biodiversity loss is a major problem that people will face since it can make the ecosystem
be dysfunctional. When this happens, the ability of the environment to supply humans
with its needs lowers in an alarming rate.
