Suggested practice methods:
1. familiarise yourself with the modes, their sound and construction in 12 keys.
To do this you could pick a key a day and focus on a particular chord type and it's chord-scale possibilities.
2. Improvise with the mode.
3. Create patterns to break out of using only step-wise motion.
4. Practice improvising over II-V-I progressions in 12 keys nominating specific modes.
5. practice improvising over progressions from tunes using specific modes.
6. apply the 'connecting the modes exercise' to tunes (you can write it out to begin with)

'CONNECTING THE MODES' EXERCISE

8 notes per bar
don't start on the root of the scale
ascend and descend in step-wise motion at all times (use full range of instrument)
make sure you are connecting by the smallest interval (st or t) across the barline.
