Lesson Topic: Greetings – Pets – Alphabet – Numbers

TIME: 4 hours PAGES: 10- MATERIALS: Balloons, letter cards, EQUIPMENT: Radio, CD,

Objectives: By the end of these activities SWBAT:

Activity 1:

* Create a role-play reviewing family vocabulary words.

Activity 2:

* Practice the use of A / AN with nouns.

* Select subject pronouns to substitute nouns.

Activity 3:

* Reconstruct a text from memory.

Activity 4:

* Practice the use of the verb To Be in full and contracted form.

Activity 5:

* Dramatize introductions and greetings, and practice spelling out their


names.

Activity 6:

* Identify the different pronunciation of minimal pairs (/I/and /i:/).

Activity 7:

* Analyze the use of Capital Letters and punctuation marks.

Copy the objectives on the board and ask questions to students about the previous 10 min

Warm Up / class, let all the Ss participate.
Introduction
Warm up: Balloons and colors: have two groups of Ss sit face to face in rows. Give
each tow Ss a balloon (same color) when you call out a color they both have to stand

up, the first one to stand up wins.

Activity 1: Group homework check: Use letters to cluster students in groups of 5 people. Instruct 20 min
them to read the exercises aloud. Move from group to group helping out and take
Listening / notes of those who may have not done their homework.
Pronunciation

Review family vocabulary and have students do Ex. 15, Pg. 10. In pairs. Have them role

Activity 2: Grammar:

A/AN: give a short presentation on the board and then have Ss do the Ex. 16,Pg. 10 in 15 min
groups of 3 Ss.

Game: Have students read the instruction on page 10. Add more words by showing

flash cards of paper cut-outs.
Pronunciation

Subject pronouns: give the concept and model some example. Ss will come up with

Group work: Have students form new groups and instruct them to work on Ex. 17 and
18, Pg. 11. Check answers.

Activity 3: *Attendance*

Reading / Disappearing text: Copy a text on the board including examples of the meanings of
Speaking articles that you have presented, and have one team of students read it out loud.

They then choose one word and that is erased. The team must then read out the
whole text, including the words that have disappeared. They then choose the next
word to disappear.

Activity 4: The verb To Be: If possible bring in a projector and give a slide show. Here’re a
suggestion from you tube:

Reading / brief lecture about the forms and use of the verb be. Allow Ss to ask questions at the
Listening end. Have Ss give their answers before you give yours.

Ss will complete exercises 19 and 20 on page 11. Then in groups of 4 Ss will compare
answers.

Activity 5: Ss will read the instructions on Ex. 21, Pg. 12. Play the recording and check with whole 10 min
class.
Listening

Role Play: Ss will complete Ex. 22, Pg. 12 and then divide the class in 4 groups. Locate
Speaking 15 min
each group in different areas of the room or have some groups go to the yard (*Check
with your coordinator) and role play simultaneously. Monitor each group.

Activity 6: T will copy plenty of example of minimal pairs emphasizing /I/and /i:/.

Listening /
Pronunciation
Ss in pairs sit back to back. Ss A says a word. Ss B spells the word. Swap roles and 15 min
Speaking repeat. After 5 min. swap partners and repeat exercise.

Listening Ss will read the instructions on Ex. 23 and 24, Pg. 12. Play the recording and check

answers.

Activity 7: T will introduce capital letters and small letters. Use flash cards. Give some examples
and have students give their own examples.
Listening 10 min

Introduce punctuation marks: period (.) comma (,) question mark (?) Exclamation
Speaking point (!) etc.

Wrap Up Go over the day, by asking different Comprehension Checking Questions touching on 5 min
everything seen in class today.

Give each student a piece of paper, they write a comment about the class and give it

HW: Ss have to complete the 25, 27, 28, 29 on pg. 13 Ex. 9, Pg. 15.
