1. Purpose.

This is the operations manual for the BodyGuard™ BodyComm Communications


Software.

2. Required Equipment.

PC with a RS232 9way Serial port


BodyComm Master Communications Charger (150-318X)
BodyComm Connection Cable (197-000X)

3. Application.

BodyComm is a communications software package to enable service technicians


and clinic staff to easily setup and program the BodyGuard infusion system.

4. Installing BodyComm on to the PC.

Place the BodyComm CD into the computer. The setup programme will
automatically start, simply follow the instructions.
To place an icon on the desktop for easy use, follow these instructions.

To do this, right mouse click any where on the desktop screen, a window
will appear, select NEW_Shortcut. This dialog window will appear, click
browse,

Select the BodyComm folder click OPEN.

Click on the BodyComm icon and then click OPEN.

A window showing the path will open. Click NEXT,

The next window asks you for the name which will appear under the icon
on the desktop,
BodyComm is the default. Click FINISH. The Bodycomm Icon will now
appear on the desktop.

To run BodyComm double click the icon.

5. Using BodyComm
Connect the cable to a free serial Com port on the PC, connect the other end to the
Bodycomm Master charger and switch on the PC. (Do not plug or unplug cables
from the PC while it’s switched on !)

Double click the BodyComm Icon, this screen


will appear. Click the CONFIGURATION
button to select the COM port you are using.
(COM1 or COM2).

Insert the pump into the comm. charger.


Switch on the pump, if you have selected the
correct COM port you will see this screen if
not select another COM port and switch the
pump off and on again.

This screen shows the pump serial number,


the stored calibration settings, and software
options. The picture will show which model of
pump is connected i.e. It will show a PCA
pump if a PCA pump is inserted into the
charger.

BodyComm gives you four options, via


command buttons, click on the option you
require, PUMP SETTING, EVENTS,
PROTOCOL and EXIT.

5.1. Pump Setting option.

Click on the PUMP SETTINGS button, this option shows all settings stored in the
pump including calibration settings, the following screen will be displayed.

On this screen you are given three further options


EXIT returns to the front screen, ADJUST SETTINGS password protected allows
access to the pump set up and PRINT PUMP SETTING prints all the displayed
settings.

5.1.1 Adjust Setting

Clicking on Adjust Setting displays a text box asking for the code (enter Technician
Level 4 code) click OK.

The following screen appears you can now alter all the settings of the pump (except
Production Date and Serial).
To do this click on any setting, if the pump setting is a ‘number’ then a text box and
a OK button will appear next to the setting, if you change the setting always click the
OK button before changing another setting, if you don not click the OK button the
old setting will remain. If the pump setting is an option, then two buttons are shown
the top button moves the option up and the lower button moves them down, click on
the correct button until the option you require is displayed.

Update Date by System, clicking on this button sets the pumps time and date to
the PC time & date.

If there is a number of pump that need to be programmed to the same specific


settings, then to save time, a macro can be recorded which when ran will change all
the number options, the setting options will need to be change manually.

5.1.2 Retrieving and Storing a Macro

Load Macro

To retrieve a previously saved macro, click on the Load Macro button, a window
opens showing a list of stored macros select the required macro, click the Open
button, the selected macro phrases will be displayed in the macro window, click on
the Run Macro button. All the ‘number’ settings will have changed, if your pump
setup requires any of the options to be adjust, these settings will be to be altered
now.

Record Macro

Click the Record Macro button, a Marco window appears, program the pump
settings, as a setting is entered and OK clicked on, a ‘phrase’ appears in the Macro
window. When the macro has been completed, click the Stop Record button and
enter a filename and click the Save Macro button.

Exit

Clicking the Exit button return to the SHOW SETTING page.

5.2 Events

The BodyGuard has a 500 event history


stored in memory, BodyComm can access it
and display the entries, an events log can be
saved for inspection if the need arises.
Selecting the Events button shows the
following screen and also starts the events
download.
The screen shows a number of text boxes
labelled; Patients Name, Age, Notes and
create file, these boxes allow you to enter the
details of the patient, if there is an incident all
the relevant details can be stored with the
events log, the create file box allows the
filename of the events log to be entered, click
OK the store the events log as the entered
name.
Click on the Calculate Graphs the BodyComm will calculate and show graphs of
Volume Delivered against time and Boluses given and Boluses attempted against
time, using the information in the events log. The graph can be printed to store in
patient records.

5.3 Protocol
The BodyGuard has the facility to store 26 different drug protocols, programming
these protocols could be a long process, if using the pump alone.

BodyComm enables the protocols to be easily programmed and as with the pump
setup option a macro can be recorded and recalled to enable more than one pump
to be quickly programmed with the same protocols.
Each protocol can be printed to enable them to be re-entered if there is a problem
with the pump or the protocols are tampered with.
Click on the Protocol button, this screen is shown.

To enter a new protocol A , click


on the Drug Name box and enter
a name for the new protocol,
proceed down the list, entering
the required value and clicking
the OK button the enter the new
value.

To enter a new or to show any of


the remaining protocols click on
the Protocol box, this will show a
list of all 26 protocols, select the
required protocol letter.

5.2.1 Record, Load and Play Macros

Record
To enable protocols to be saved and used to program multiple pumps, a macro
needs to be recorded.
To record a macro is very simple, follow these steps:
Click Record Macro. Enter Drug Name continue down the list entering the ‘number’
settings and clicking OK, a phrase will appear in the text box, this phrase is the
command the pump needs to store the value. If there are any ‘option’ settings
needed to be changed, these can not be stored on a macro. And will need to be
altered every time the macro is run. If the pump is to have multiple protocols select
the next Drug name and repeat the programming for each drug.

Once the protocol is finished click the Stop Record button, enter a filename and
click the Save Macro button.

Load and Play macros.

To use a previously recorded and


saved macro.
Click Load Macro, Select the
required macro Click Open, the
recorded phrases are shown in the
text window. Click Play Macro.
The macro will run a change all the
‘number’ settings, if the protocols
have ‘option’ settings change them
manually.

If the macro programs multiple drug


protocols, select each one to ensure
programming and to change the
‘option’ settings.
