§1 INTRODUCTION

• This service manual is for the NIDEK GREEN LASER PHOTOCOAGULATOR, GYC-
1000.

• For correct service, thorough understanding of the contents in this manual is required
prior to the service.

• Refer to the operator’s manual and parts list for the GYC-1000.

• Specifications are subject to change without notice for improvement. Refer to the Service
Manual Annex for important changes.

• In case the system cannot be repaired according to the procedures described in this
manual, please report the serial number of the system and details of the symptom or
symptoms.

§2 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

<General precautions>
• Servicing should be performed by NIDEK service persons or other qualified personnel.
• Perform all servicing according to the procedures described in this manual. Failure to do
so may cause unexpected accident or malfunction.
• When performing maintenance work, turn off the power switch and disconnect the power
cord from the wall outlet unless the power needs to be on.

<Maintenance precautions>
• Take antistatic precautions prior to work.
• If case of system malfunction, check the symptom and turn the power switch off.
• Never drop parts or screws inside the system, nor bump it against surrounding objects.
• Prepare storage cases so as not to lose the removed parts and screws.
• Tighten or loosen screws with proper tools.
• After loosening the screws fastened by a threadlocking adhesive, be sure to reapply the
threadlocking adhesive to the screws when retightening them.
• After replacing parts, make sure that they are fastened securely before turning on the
power.
• Should you observe strange odors or smoke being issued from the system, immediately
turn off the power switch, disconnect the power cord from the outlet, and investigate the
cause. If the system is powered in abnormal conditions, fire, electric shock, or total loss
of the system may result.
• See Wiring Diagram and Connecting Cable for checking cable breaks as described in
“TROUBLESHOOTING”. In addition, check cables for the following:
(1) Connectors are connected and crimped properly.
(2) No contact failure occurs after re-connection of connectors.
(3) Cables are soldered properly.
Do not yank the cables with excessive force. Doing so could cause cable breakage.
Never perform servicing with wet hands. Doing so could cause electric shock or
malfunction.
• Continuous oscillation of laser causes an overload on power supply, so never continue it
for 10 seconds or more.
• Never emit the laser beam onto a reflective surface such as metal etc.
• Be sure to wear the safety goggles specified for the GYC-1000 during laser emission.
• Never emit laser beam (direct beam) toward a human body or object.

<Adjustment precautions>
• Adjust the GYC-1000 on a vibration-free, level, and stable surface.
A slanted floor or place subject to vibration will obstruct accurate adjustment.
• Do not use adjustment jigs for purposes other than those intended.

* Replacement of the laser head (hereafter referred to as LH) should be performed by NIDEK
service persons or other qualified personnel.
* Before replacing the LH, be sure to take antistatic precautions by using an electrostatic mat
etc. The LH is susceptible to static electricity, so it may be deteriorated if antistatic precautions
are not taken properly. If there is no electrostatic mat, order one by the following part No.
• 17164-M560 (Electrostatic mat)
[Preparation for the main body]
1. Turn off the key switch and master switch of the main body.
2. Remove the covers (see 5.1).

1) See the data labeled on or included with a new LH to confirm the LD temperature, LH
temperature, and I max value.
2) Set the LD temperature and LH temperature to 10 times the value obtained in Step 1)
(ex.: 32.5ºC → “325”).
* Set the following two items by the parameters (see 7.1).
• LD temperature: Address 65
• LH temperature: Address 66
3) Set the limiter current.
a. Turn off the key switch and master switch of the main body.

e. Set the POWER display on the CB to 2000 mW and emit the laser. Confirm that the
value measured by the clamp tester is approx. 5 A.
f. Set the POWER display on the CB to 4000 mW and emit the laser. Perform adjustment
with VR 2 so that the value measured by the clamp tester is I max + 4 (A) (= limiter
current).
* I max is the value described in above 1) and the current when the output in the LH
end is 2.5 W.
