SKYMAP MICA

Software built by Jet Propulsion Lab in South Cal for U.S. Naval Observatory. Displays the USN Ephemeris Data, which is more of less THE
authoritative ephemeris of the motions of the stars and planets. Data is from a version which is now several years old.

The model is used to predict where any body in the solar system should be located at any date. Since perturbations exist which cannot be
accounted for, the positions of bodies looking backward in time is presumed to become less and less accurate. Looking forward in time, after a
few thousand years, the same could be said. If for plus or minus a few hundred years centered on our time, any deviance beyond a second would
presumably be caused by a shift of dynamics in the solar system from an unknown event. There are always perturbations in the atmosphere, the
daily position of the North Spin Axis, the Moon, the Earth’s orbit, the spin rate of the Earth, the quality of the observer or the method, etc, thus the
observer will never find the exact numbers in the ephemeris. But any difference greater than a second in arc location or time could point to a real
anomaly.

This chart is built from these location variables, the time is set for local time in BCC

The way to test for any anomalous shift in the solar system or the orientation of the Earth’s spin axis is to test the chart’s predicted rising and
setting of the Sun or planets against what you can observe. This is exactly how it is done for real. This chart will only work for my location in
BCC, AZ, but a similar exact chart can be easily made by me for any location since I have the USN s complete ephemeris and Sky Modeling
software. It is very high quality because this is how the USN navigates the oceans. I will prepare a chart for you if I have the following
information: your elevation in meters, and your exact longitude and latitude. You can use Weather Underground to click on your area’s google
map and use it to find you home and then click on it to locate the marker on where you will look at the sky. Then copy the latitude and
longitude numbers and send them to me. I need also the elevation and time zone and whether or not you use the daylight savings time
(humbug).
As you can see on the chart, it is set for the Sun to be half set on my horizon. I or you would be in the exact center of the chart facing due East,
Polaris on the overhead meridian (NS) but above the northern horizon. Remember that you are facing due South in this chart, such that South
in this chart is where your feet are pointing. As the table defines, the Sun will set exactly at 252 azimuth (location by degrees on the horizon)
towards the South. Since due west is 270 degrees azimuth, you subtract 252 from 270 to derive 18 degrees (south of your due West). YOUR
ANGLE WILL BE UNIQUE TO YOUR LOCATION.

To test whether the Sun is setting properly, you need to have this chart configured for your location, you have to be able to see DUE WEST from
you observation point as a point on your visible location and you need to be able to measure the angle between that point and the actual
observed angle of the sunset. It should agree with the angle computed from your Chart.

If the sky is clear, I will do this tonight at my location using this chart. Similar can be done for the Moon, but this is not a good time to view the
Sun as it is near New. Oh, one thing to keep in mind, if your horizon has mountains on it, such as I do, actual visible sunset will be slightly earlier
and the angle of the set will be slightly different, but probably not measurable by me.
