ABSTRACT/PROJECT SUMMARY
MODULE OVERVIEW
The project summary, though it appears after the title page and the table of contents, is written only
after all the aspects of the study have been completed. It is very important since not all readers have the
luxury of time to read every detail of the study. Oftentimes, readers check the details only when they find the
proposal financially interesting. The project summary, therefore, should be written in simple language and in
an interesting manner to attract investors or any interested user. It is the façade of the whole study, and if
possible, it should win the hearts of investors.
This chapter will discuss about the definition of the project summary, proposed name of the business,
description of the industry, description of the project, location of the project, highlights of major assumptions,
and summary of findings and conclusions.
Project Summary
The project summary presents the highlights of the study, the lists of major assumptions, and
summarizes the major findings and conclusions. The term project summary is also known as abstract,
synopsis, or overview.
There are no definite or prescribed sections of a project summary, though it is recommended that is
has the sections of:
(1) Proposed name of the business.
(2) Description of the industry.
(3) Description of the project.
(4) Location of the project.
(5) Highlights of major assumptions; and
(6) Summary of findings and conclusion.
LEARNING ACTIVITY 1
1. Think of a proposed project to undertake, and identify three possible trade names to use.
LEARNING ACTIVITY 2
Your study reveals that candle making, with minimal cost of investment, is feasible in all areas. Make a
conclusion applicable to the specific areas and to the whole study in general. Use at least two paragraphs for
your conclusion.
SUMMARY
A project summary should be written in short paragraphs, using clear and concise language appropriate
for the readers.
