UAS: LANGUAGE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

1. How to provide positive language classroom environment for student success?

There is a direct relationship between the kind of learning environment
teachers create in their classrooms and student achievement. First one is adress
students need, create sense of order, let students get to know you, avoid rewarding
control, avoid judging, employ class-building games and activities, be vulnarable and
celebrate success.

2. Teachers are ultimately responsible for classroom rules. New teachers in a new
culture should consult experienced teachers and follow their examples in
establishing language classroom rules. Explain the rules establishing the
language classroom!
One thing I’m now sure about, is that good classroom management depends a
lot on how you establish the ground rules at the beginning of a course. Students need
to know what you expect from them and what they can expect from you during the
course. They need to know where the boundaries lie and what will happen if they step
over the boundaries. Even if you are in the middle of the course it is never too late to
refresh students’ memories of the ground rules. It can also be worth spending five
minutes establishing the ground rules when you get thrown in to substitute a class you
have never taught before.
I have made the following rules for my high school class. The rules are few in
number and cover broad types of behavior. When introducing the rules, I discuss the
rationale behind the rule. I think this is especially important when teaching teenagers.
I have found that students agree with these rules and they like the security of knowing
what is expected of them during different classroom activities.
CLASSROOM RULES
a. RESPECT YOUR TEACHER AND CLASSMATES
b. QUICKLY FOLLOW TEACHER DIRECTIONS
c. BE PUNCTUAL AND PREPARED
d. SAY IT IN ENGLISH!
e. KEEP OUR CLASSROOM CLEAN!

3. What is considered inappropriate behavior and how should you manage it

(Consequences and/or Punishment)?
Young learners are notorious for being particularly rambunctious and loud, but
a big class of adult learners talking at the same time can also send the noise level
through the roof. How can you manage the noise levels when you have students
working together in smaller groups? Here’s where the seating arrangement comes in.
Have students form small clusters with their desks where they’re all facing each other.
Encourage them to speak softly. Or have groups scattered throughout the classroom in
small clusters on the floor.

4. Rubrics can be simple or detailed depending on the assignment. Please, make the
simple language rubrics in you classroom!
