TUTORIAL LETTER 102/2020 FOR MAC4865

Dear Student

Please note we will be offering online lessons and revision classes for the
MAC4863/5/6/7/8 modules, starting from next week the 31st of August. Please check the
announcements on your module code for the exact dates and times.

The below relates to the October/November 2020 and January/February 2021 exam sittings for
MAC4865.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the National State of Disaster requiring social distancing as a means
to avoid its spread. To this end the management of Unisa took a decision that there will be minimal to no
face-to-face contact activities during this time, including examinations. As such, the examination
(summative assessment) of this module, like many other modules at Unisa, will be conducted online.

Your exam will not be venue-based. The duration of the exam will be 3 hours, comprising 100 marks.

The examination consists of four questions of which all four questions must be answered.

Your examination question paper format will be as follows:

Question 1: Multiple choice questions various topics from module syllabus.

Question 2: Written questions containing a scenario that will cover various topics from module syllabus.

Question 3: Written questions containing a scenario that will cover various topics from module syllabus.

Question 4: Written questions containing a scenario that will cover various topics from module syllabus.

FORMAT OF THE EXAMINATION (SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT)

The examination for this module was initially scheduled for a venue-based examination. Due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, the examination will now be conducted online as follows:

1. The examination will be conducted as a take-home examination based on an examination question


paper.

2. The examination will be managed on the myUnisa platform.

3. Please refer to your examination time table for the date and time of the examination. The
preliminary date and time for the MAC4865 examination is 22 October 2020, 14:30 to 17:30.

4. The duration of the examination will be 3 hours.

Detailed instructions, including how to access the myUnisa platform/website, the honesty
declaration and the processes to follow, will be made available to you in due course. When
available, please refer to the module site available on the myUnisa website.

WRITE THE EXAMINATION:

You must write the examination on the date indicated on your examination timetable. The details
regarding the assessment are as follows:

1. The examination will count 100 marks and will preliminary take place on 22 October 2020,
14:30 to 17:30.

2. Venue: This assessment is a non-venue based assessment. You will receive the assessment via the
UNISA myUnisa platform/website. We recommend that you write the assessment at a quiet venue where
you have access to a computer, printer, scanner and the internet. The venue is your own responsibility.
For example, you can write at home or arrange to write at your employer’s offices. Please be reminded
that the assessment must be your own work and all UNISA students are bound to the UNISA Students’
Disciplinary Code.

3. The proposed time table for 22 October 2020 is as follows:

14:15 – 14:30: Download and print the examination question paper from the myUnisa website.

14:30 – 17:30: Prepare your answer for the special assessment.

17:30 – 18:00: Scan and submit your answer via the myUnisa website - if the answer is not successfully
submitted before the cut-off time, it will be assumed that you did not write the examination.

4. Assessment type: The online examination will be similar to that of a venue based examination,
consists of integrated questions. ALL the topics/learning units in the syllabus for MAC4865 will be
examinable. The examination will ONLY be available in English.

5. Answering the examination: The examination will ONLY be available on the date indicated on the
examination timetable on the myUnisa website. The examination can be completed by the student by
either using excel, word or the answer can be handwritten. As the teaching medium is English, you are
expected to provide your answers in English. As with examinations, all calculations must be shown!
Once you have completed your answer, it must be converted to PDF for submission online before 18:00
(or 30 minutes after the examination time per the examination time table has expired). ONLY PDF files
submitted on the myUnisa website for the module will be accepted. The PDF files must not exceed
10 MB (megabytes). Submission via email and any other form (other than PDF) will NOT be accepted.

All students who choose to write the examination (and submit their work) make a declaration that
the work submitted is their own work. Students will be required to check a box also to agree to
the honor pledge before their work can be submitted. By submitting work and checking the box,

a student declares that the work submitted by the student, is their own work and that they have
neither given nor received aid on this submitted work.

6. Final mark for MAC4865: Your year mark for 2020 will contribute 20% and your examination result will
contribute 80% of your final mark.

NOTE: From the October/November exams, Unisa is planning on using online examination
proctoring software, whereby student’s online activity is monitored during the exam. More details
on this will be communicated to you closer to the time if applicable. Students are expected to
prepare for a closed book examination, as proctoring entails monitoring students while taking
the examination, where the use of any sources of information will not be permitted.
