THREE TYPES:
1. Two-dimensional expression

§ Alla Prima
□ One layer painting technique completed in
one sitting or while paint is still wet
□ Wet on wet painting
□ If you did a wet on wet painting but didn't
finish in one sitting iit is NOT alla prima
§ Encaustic
□ Also known as hot wax painting
□ When you add pigment to beeswax and use it
to paint
□ Wax is a candle like substance, which one can
melt when heating
□ gives the artist the power to come up with
texture with his or her artwork
§ Tempera
□ Adding pigment to water-soluble binder
medium such as egg yolk
□ Process starts by separating the egg yolk form
the egg white, then the pigment is mixed with
the egg yolk together with other ingredients,
and use it to paint
§ Fresco
□ A mural painting technique that involves
painting over fresh plaster
□ Usually done in walls, when the finishing
cement is still fresh or soft, the painting is
applied, so when the plaster/cement hardens,
the painting becomes permanent
§ Watercolor
□ When pigments are suspended in a water-
based solution
□ This is suspended/hardened which you can
melt using water
§ Oil on Canvas
□ Adding pigments to drying oil for binder
□ Mix pigment with an oil substance and apply
it in your canvas
§ Mosaic
□ When small pieces of anything are assembled
together (such as; glass, stone, seeds, etc) to
form an image or an artwork
§ Stained Glass
□ When an artwork is made with colored glass
□ Process starts with a patter, then colored
pieces of glass are cut and assembled to form
the image
§ Drawing
□ Using a writing material (pen, pencil, marker,
etc.) to mark a two-dimensional canvas such
as paper and form an image
□ Type of artwork everyone experienced
§ Photography
□ Creating images with light
□ Becoming very popular nowadays, mor
people are becoming photographers
□ Not used by cameras but also phones
