Question 1. Slide presentation #10, what were the reasons why Magellan proclaimed the
"discovery" of our country for the name of Spain?
Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese navigator who first served his country,
Portugal but he did not get the credit he wants for the contributions he has made for the
country's successes. The King of Portugal rejected his petitions for the merit he deserves and
accused him of dealing with their enemies. He even proposed circumnavigating the whole
world to prove that it is round but he didn't supported him. Eventually, Magellan decided to
offer his service to others that led him to the King of Spain. To prove the claims that Spice
Island lay west that belonged to the Spanish not Portuguese, Magellan proposed to sail west
in search of a route where the King gave his blessing. While voyaging, they discovered an
island and marked it as Spain's own which then he named after King Philip II to honor him
and proclaim his discovery of our country for Spain who gave him the opportunity to carry
out his expedition.

Question 2. Make your own chronological order (from oldest to youngest) about Pepe's
siblings by using your creativity.

Question 3. For 2 centuries, Spain did not even bother to develop our livelihoods and
social responsibilities. What were the reasons behind this?

Spaniards had motives in colonizing Philippines such as religious expansion

especially the Catholicism and economic prospects like the Galleon trade which they made
use as their main source of income to enrich their country's status and wealth. They utilized
resources from the Philippines as well as the Filipinos to work for them which also resulted to
slavery for the others to keep their profiles low and even called them Indios. They deprived
Filipinos with their rights from their own country and did not even bother to develop other
livelihoods for them to benefit. Moreover, they won't let them to participate with bigger
economic activities and take social responsibilities so that they won't be a hindrance with
their hidden agendas. They didn't want the Filipinos to perceive how crook their
administration was. They made them see things as they were, as bad as it seems for the
Filipinos to be unaware of the things they must deserve and possess as people living in their
own land.

Question 4. What were the reasons why Katipunan fought so hard but did not succeed
against the Spaniard? Please do the research when you answer this question.

Filipinos suffered a lot during the Spanish colonization to the point that they wanted
to speak out and break the injustices of the Spanish regime reason for the birth of the KKK or
the Kataas-taasang Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan. The organization
was led by Andres Bonifacio which aimed to gain independence from Spain through
revolution. Different from Rizal's system of opposing the Spaniards, he then told them that it
was not the right time to start a revolution against the enemies as they were not ready and
they didn't have enough weapons to execute their plans. Fuelled with their burning desire to
fight, the Katipuneros became impulsive with the decisions they made that led the group to
misunderstandings among the members namely Teodoro Patiño and Apolonio Dela Cruz due
to some salary increase that cost them whole existence of the organization. This led Patiño to
confide the secrets of the Katipunan to his sister that resulted to a domino effect until it
reached the Spaniards and they secret organization. The Katipunan had bright beginnings.
Their goals were set but the plan of executing it was uncertain that resulted to bigger conflicts
within the organization. Along the process they got lost with their idea of revolution they first
had in their minds reason that even they fought so hard they didn't succeed in gaining the
freedom from the Spanish colonizers.
