All students who currently receive accommodations and modifications for any academic reason
will be served and met throughout this course.

For any reason, because of the nature of the course, if a student needs further accommodations or
modifications or feels they need to be implemented, a meeting can be scheduled at any time
throughout this course.

Do to the nature of this course, students have flexibility in their learning. They will be graded on
their ability not on the project in comparison to their classmates.

Late Assignments:
All gradable items are due when assigned. Late assignments will have a 1 point deduction for
every day that it is late. If an assignment is a week late, it will not be accepted.

II. Course Description:


A. Within the Governor Mifflin mission statement it states that the district will
provide opportunities to students so they are college, career, and future ready.
Part of the future is not only the long term future, but year to year. This course
provides students with an opportunity to work independently, collaboratively, and
through discussions to learn about the gSuite and their Chromebooks.
Application of a series of tools and resources will be used to show thorough
understand and knowledge of the concepts. Chromebooks are heavily used fifth
grade through twelfth grade, with the students being able to take them home in
seventh grade. The completion of this course will allow for the students to be
future ready.
III. Course Rationale:
A. As stated by the state of Pennsylvania the knowledge of technology is pertinent to
fourth grade students. The information stated and learned in this course will offer
assistance for the growth of students continuing their education throughout the
district as well as being future ready. Having an understanding of these topics
will allow these students to be prepared to be a successful student and citizen to
the environments and futures. The students will use the information and
knowledge gathered in this course to be a successful student with technology and
Chromebooks for their future schooling. Having this basic knowledge of the
gSuite and its’ functions, will allow for students to be competent in their work and
will be able to go beyond the basic levels of understanding. As far as materials,
the course will be free. Students will be using their chromebooks that are already
provided. Our medium or format will be gClassroom, which is free to access
through Chromebooks.
IV. Course Objectives/Student Learning Outcomes:

A. After successfully completing this course, the students will be able to:

1. Highlight their strengths, weakness, and interests through introducing


themselves to their classmates.
2. Determine different ways to navigate their Chromebooks through a
Chromebook Scavenger hunt.
3. Compose a book review of a book read through completing and creating a
book review on gDoc.
4. Build and animate a short film through using gSlides.
5. Illustrate a favorite scene from a book through the book scene description
on gDrawing.
6. Compose questions for a peer survey to gather information for a
hypothetical essay through using gForms.
7. Build a checklist through prioritizing a shopping spree to evaluate money
spent through using gSheet.

VII. Course Overview/Schedule:

A. Unit
1. Dance Mat Typing
a) This site is a free site to use. See the course schedule for the link
to access the site. It is the expectation to complete all four levels
on this site during the course of eight weeks. You will just submit
your completion certificate on gClassroom.
2. Hands on Learning (gSuite)
a) There will be videos that are incorporated into this course. While
there will be videos and office hours, the expectation is to try the
assignments and explore on the gSuite.

2. There is no assignment this week, just familiarize yourself
with our module of gClassroom. Please reach out with any
questions or technological issues.
3. Choose a book you would like to write a book review on.
Have this book read by 6/24.

1 6/10: 1. Dance Mat Typing: This is to be completed by the end of


Introductions the course. A completion certificate submission will be
submitted to gClassroom.
2. Complete an introduction video and post to gClassroom.
This assignment is listed under week 1 assignment, as will
all assignments be listed under the specific week. If
interested in using screencastify, go to Google chrome web
store and search. Once you find the extension, you will
just need to click “Add to Chrome.” (Completed by 6/16).
3. Choose a book you would like to write a book review on.
Have this book read by 6/24.

2 6/17: 1. Dance Mat Typing: This is to be completed by the end of


Chromebooks the course. A completion certificate submission will be
submitted to gClassroom.
2. Watch this introductory video to Google and chromebooks.
3. Complete the Google Chromebook scavenger hunt. Once
completed, turn in on gClassroom. (Completed by 6/23).
4. Choose a book you would like to write a book review on.
Have this book read by 6/24.

3 6/24: gDocs 1. Dance Mat Typing: This is to be completed by the end of


the course. A completion certificate submission will be
submitted to gClassroom.
2. Watch this introduction video to gDocs. This is a brief
overview of using gDocs for kids.
3. Using the book you choose at the beginning of the course,
complete a book review on this book. There are directions
on the gDoc for you to follow to finish this assignment.
Once completed, I will leave comments on the document
for you to read and make adjustments if needed.

4 7/8: gSlides 1. Dance Mat Typing: This is to be completed by the end of


the course. A completion certificate submission will be
submitted to gClassroom.
2. Watch this introductory video on gSlides. This is a brief
overview of gSlides for kids.
3. You will create a short film on gSlides. You can choose
any school appropriate topic that is an important topic to
you. For example you can choose a hobby, animal, or
friend to write about. You will use gSlides to import
pictures, add text, and music if you so choose. Once your
gSlide is complete, you will use screencastify to record
your story with either your voice or your music.

4. When using screencastify, go to Google chrome web store
and search. Once you find the extension, you will just need
to click “Add to Chrome.” This will add the extension to
your URL bar. You will just click on the icon and
screencastify will walk you through step by step directions
on how to record video.

5 7/15: gDrawing 1. Dance Mat Typing: This is to be completed by the end of


the course. A completion certificate submission will be
submitted to gClassroom.
2. Watch this introductory video on gDrawing. This is a brief
video on gDrawing for beginners.
3. You will depict your favorite scene from a book of your
choice on gDrawing. You may depict a scene from the
book you did a book review on for this class or you may
pick another book. Be creative with this assignment and
explore gDrawing. There are some neat features on this
application. (Completed 7/21)

6 7/22: gForm 1. Dance Mat Typing: This is to be completed by the end of


the course. A completion certificate submission will be
submitted to gClassroom.
2. Watch this introductory video on gForms. This is a brief
overview on gForms for kids.
3. You will create a peer survey. This can be on any topic of
your choosing. You are collecting information as if you
were writing a persuasive or argumentative essay. Please
create a gForm that has at least five questions for your
peers to answer. For this assignment please post your link
to your survey in the comment section for your peers to
take your survey. (Completed 7/28)

7 7/29: gSheet 1. Dance Mat Typing: This is to be completed by the end of


the course. A completion certificate submission will be
submitted to gClassroom.
2. Watch this introductory video on gSheet. This is a brief
overview of gSheets for kids.
3. You will create a gSheet for a shopping spree, but this is
not a typical shopping spree. There are some stipulations.
The directions and gSheet are listed on gClassroom. Have
fun shopping! (Completed 8/4)

8 8/5: Reflection 1. Dance Mat Typing: This is to be completed by the end of


the course. A completion certificate submission will be
submitted to gClassroom. (Completed 8/11)
2. You will complete a survey created by your instructor in
gForms reflecting on the course. Please be honest, as I use
this information for future courses.
