What a spreadsheet is and why they are used.

Explaining the theme of the work we will be doing over the
next few lessons.
Find out what the students already understand about
spreadsheets. Quiz existing vocabulary knowledge.
m  Holiday Brochures Holiday brochures will be handed out to engage the
Data Worksheet students in the topic. They will demonstrate the type of
Excel Template data that we will be transferring into a spreadsheet.

Students should locate the excel template. The data


worksheet will be given out and they will use this to add
data to the spreadsheet.

What a formula is and what a function is.
How to apply these to a spreadsheet.

  By the end of the lesson we will:

Be able to use the functions, SUM, drag and fill
Be able to work within a budget.

Excel Template to fill the spreadsheet. Students will create formulas to
calculate the cost of a holiday for 4 people.

They will also be keeping to a budget and using formulae to


keep within it.

   Active class Students become parts of a formula and rearrange


themselves to form a whole.
m  Data Worksheet Students have been given a new budget to work with. A
Excel Template goal seek will be used to find the maximum number of
people they can take on holiday.

Students will apply absolute cell referencing to the


template spreadsheets to calculate holiday prices with
inflation at 6 and 12 months.

How to create a graph and chart.
How to apply these to a spreadsheet and why.

  By the end of the lesson we will:
Be able to create a chart/graph.
m m  Key vocabulary we will understand and be able to use:
Chart, Graph, Axis, Legend

   Active class The students will arrange themselves into a human pie
chart according to hair colour/eye colour, shoe size, etc..
m  Data Worksheet Students will use Excel to create different types of graphs
Excel Template and charts. Must include a line graph comparing current
and future prices.
Must also include a pie chart showing how their budget is
divided into proportions with percentages.
