INQUIRE AND DISCOVER!

Philosophy is derived from the Greek words ‘philo’ and

‘sophia’ as introduced by Pythagoras around 584 B.C in
Ancient Greece. By its etymological definition Philosophy
means love of wisdom and soon applied to science or
disciplined which uses human reason to investigate the
What is Philosophy? ultimate causes, reason, and principles which govern all
things.

Wisdom consists in not merely acquiring the basic ideas but knowing, learning and ascertaining these ideas to
satisfy one’s quest. Philosophy is the science of things by their ultimate principles and cause, as known by
natural reason alone. As science, it is certain knowledge of things with firm foundation. It is concerned with
the things found in the existential world, arduous integrative activity of inquiry about different branches,
material beings, non-material being, and principles/engagement of the meaning life; such us its value and
relevance through the principles of natural cognition by exploring nature. It is analytical (rational) and
experiential.

In the course of their studies and inquiries, philosopher touches upon many subjects and concerns. The major
questions in Philosophy concern reality, certainty, causality, and ethics.

What is real? Are we able to perceive and understand reality and everything in it?
How do we know what we know? Are the things that we know true?

What is the ultimate cause of all things? What is our purpose in this world?
To what extent are our choices and actions considered “free”?
