Overview
LearningStation Test Builder provides an intuitive online environment for creating, delivering and assessing
practice tests. Delivered through the Education Desktop, LearningStation Test Builder delivers formative,
standards-based practice tests for state-mandated tests in reading, mathematics, science, social studies and writing
for grades three through high school.

Home (Welcome) Page
The Test Builder Tab is where you start developing the foundation for your Personalized Practice Testing Station.
You may return to the Welcome Page from any page within the LearningStation Test Builder by clicking on the
Home link.

You may start developing your Testing Station by either creating your classes first or creating your practice tests.
Just remember that you cannot have one without the other to distribute the tests to students online.

View/ Assign Test
This area provides a completed listing of all available tests and allows you to assign them to your classes. It also
displays tests that other teachers have created to share.
Before assigning tests to classes, make sure you have the classes built first and the students associated with each
class. If you do not have any tests built, see the Create Test section.

These tests were created and shared by other teachers in your school. You may preview and print these tests. You
may also save a copy to your tests and then assign them to your classes.

Viewing Shared Test
1) Click on the Test Name to open the Test Summary Screen
2) Click on the either the HTML or PDF link to view the test

2) View the test by selecting the format of HTML or PDF

Rating a Shared Test
1) Click on the Name of the Shared Test from the View/ Assign Test Screen
2) Open the Shared test
3) View the Test and close the test
4) Click on the Stars to show an average rating by all teachers who have rated this test

Using a Shared Test in your school


1)Click on the underlined name of the test in the Shared Test Table
2)From the Test Status Screen, click on the ‘Copy and Assign this Test’ button
3)You will now see the Test Summary screen for the selected test
4)Check the box for each class to assign the test and click Update Assignments button
5)You may assign this test to a class now, see the Utilizing a Test Section
a) Rename test
b) Edit Test
c) Copy Test
d) Assign Test

Using Shared Test from other schools in the district


1)Click the down arrow in the Show shared tests from field to expand the list
2)Select the school to view any tests that are marked as shared for the selected school
3)The Shared Test table will change showing all shared tests for the school selected
4)Click on the underlined name of the test
5)Click the Copy and Assign this Test button
6)You will now see the Test Summary screen for the selected test
7)Check the box for each class to assign the test and click Update Assignments button
8)You may assign this test to a class now, see the Utilizing a Test Section

Creating a Test
This area allows you to create your tests, share the tests, assign the tests and set time limits on tests. Allow the
students to see the graded test or only the Score; for example, they won’t have a key for the test if the same test
will be given at a later date.

ii) When you select one or more criterion, you will receive a sorted list of relevant test questions in the
next step.
d) Random by Standard
i) Listed below are the standard indicators from your test's subject area and grade level
ii) Using the pull-down menu next to each indicator, select the number of questions you would like on
your test.
iii) The test questions will be randomly selected and added to your test.
e) Custom Questions
i) Select the custom questions you have created
ii) Create Custom Questions from the link provided
6) Once the questions are displayed, select each question that will go in the test
7) Scroll to the bottom of the page
a) Click on Complete Test if satisfied with selected questions
b) Click ‘Select these questions and Search for More’ button if you would like to add more questions 5
i) When all questions are selected, click the ‘Finish Creating Test’ button
8) When the test is built, a screen similar to Figure 6 will appear
9) At this point you can do any of the following
a) View Test Online in HTML or PDF format
b) Print the Test
c) Assign Test to a class
d) Delete Test
e) Share the Test with other teachers 6

Printing (Hardcopy)

1) Printing a New Test


a) Under the Printable Version, select the format (HTML or PDF)
b) Click on the link and the test will open in a separate window
c) At this time you can print the test
2) Go back to the Test Summary Screen (see figure 6)
3) Click on the ‘return to list’ link to go back to View/ Assign Test screen

1) Printing a Test that was created previously


a) Click on the View/ Assign Test Icon
b) Find the test to print and Click on the Test Name
c) Under the Printable Version, select the format (HTML or PDF)
d) The test will open and can be printed at this time
2) Go back to the Test Summary Screen (see figure 6)
3) Click on the ‘return to list’ link to go back to View/ Assign Test screen

Assigning an Online (Softcopy)


1) All the classes that have been created will be listed in the Online Assignment Table
a) Classes cannot be Shared with other Teachers
b) If the students are not assigned to the class they will not see the test when they login the Education
Desktop and click on the LearningStation TB
2) Assign the Test to the class by checking the appropriate box
3) For Timed Tests, enter a whole number (minutes only) in the Time Limit box
a) If the Time Limit box is left blank the test is not a timed test 7

a) Checked – Allows the student to view the graded test (similar to the Test’s Key)
b) Un-checked – Student only sees the Score
i) use if the test will be given again at a later date
5) Click on the ‘Update Assignment’ button
6) Click on the ‘return to list’ link to go back to View/ Assign Test screen

Removing / Deleting
Option 1:
1) When at the Test Summary Screen (Figure 6)
2) Click on the link in the upper right corner ‘Delete this Test’
3) Click yes to the prompt box to verify deleting the test
a) If the test is shared it will also be removed from the Shared Test list 8

Option 2:
1) Go to the View/ Assign Test Screen (Figure 2) by clicking on the icon in the TB toolbar
2) Checkmark all tests to be deleted in the designated section
3) Click on the Deleted Selected Test that is associated with the section you checked tests in
4) Click OK in the verify box that will pop up
5) The test is now removed

Renaming & Revising


1) Go to the View/ Assign Test Screen (Figure 2) by clicking on the icon in the TB toolbar
2) Open the Test Summary page by clicking on the underlined test name
3) Click on the Edit Test link in the upper right corner of the frame
4) The test will open – and can be renamed at this time
a) In the Test Name field type in the new desired test name
5) Revising Test
a) Remove Questions – Uncheck the Question
b) Add Questions – click on the Keep Selected Questions and Add More button
6) Once you have completed editing the test click the Keep Selected Questions and Finish Editing button

Copy Test
1) Go to the View/ Assign Test Screen (Figure 2) by clicking on the icon in the TB toolbar
2) Open the Test Summary page by clicking on the underlined test name
3) Click on the ‘Copy this Test’ link
4) Type in a name for the copied test (ex: Pre-Test Math Fractions)
5) Use of copied tests
a) Re-Assign test to same class original version was assigned to
b) Share Test with the new name
c) Edit the Test (revising add / remove questions)

Custom Questions
You can use this tool to create and manage your custom test questions. When you create a question, it is then
immediately available to you when you create a test. These questions may be used in any type of test, either
practice tests or general tests given on daily needs in the classroom. The questions will be added to your Custom
Question database and are not shareable with others.

Classes

Structure Classrooms and Students


Use this tool to create and manage classes 10 , or groups of students and is also located on the Teacher Tools Tab
outside the Test Builder Application. To make a new class, click on the Classes link. Next, place students from
your school into this class, filtering the student list by grade sorting the student list until you find the students
you're looking for. Once you've setup your classes, you can assign tests to your classes. You may wish to create a
class that contains all of your students and also classes that contain subsets of your students.

NOTE: The tool to Manage Your Classes on the Teacher Tool Tab may also be used to create classes in the LS
Test Builder.

Building a New Class


1) Verify that you are on the Class Management page11
2) From the ‘Your Classes’ box, click on the ‘create a new class’ link.
3) A small prompt window will appear, type the name of the class in the text field 12

Students

Adding
1) Verify that you are on the Class Management page2
2) Select the desired Class by clicking on the underlined name
3) From the ‘Students’ box that now appears, click on the ‘add more students’ link
a) Schools with Large Populations will see the screen in Figure 9
b) Select the Grade from the drop-down list and click on the Show only this grade button
c) A shorter list of students will appear to make it easier to find your students
4) Select the students that will belong to this class by clicking in the Check Box or check the ‘Select all
Students’ box
a) To filter students listed by Grade Level 13 :
i) Click on the down arrow and select the desired grade
ii) Click on the ‘Show only this Grade’ Button
iii) Sort by any column by clicking on the Column Header (ex: SurName to sort by LastName)
5) Click on the Add these Students button at the bottom of the table to complete the process

Removing
1) Verify that you are on the Class Management page2
2) Select the desired Class by clicking on the underlined name
3) From the ‘Students’ box that now appears, checkmark the students to be removed
4) click on the ‘remove selected students’ link
5) You will be prompted to verify you want to remove the students from the class – click Yes

Removing a Existing Class


1) Verify that you are on the Class Management page2
2) From the ‘Your Classes’ box, checkmark the classes that you would like to remove 14
3) Click on the ‘delete selected class’ link
4) You will be prompted to verify that the class will be deleted for good – click Yes

Self Testing
This is a self-paced auto-generated testing tool that allows students to practice in school or from home. While the
students take practice tests they will earn points and receive trophies that allow them to print out certificates
showing they have reached the goal for that standard.

School Administrators
• Individuals who will be controlling the LS Test Builder settings of features in the LS Test Builder, such
as setting the bar for students to get Trophies & Points when Self Testing.

• The Individual(s) who will be in charge of maintaining the user accounts (add, delete & edit)

• Principals and Superintendents will need this access.

• Individuals that will need to monitor the Schools Testing Stats or setting up syllabus for teachers to
follow using the testing scores of the school as a guide.

A user assigned with School Administrator (Admin) rights has the ability to control the Auto-Generated Testing
(Self Testing) activity by adjusting the minimum number of questions per subject and setting the score level to
receive a virtual trophy & points.
There is also a setting that will allow the Auto-Generated Testing link to be hidden from the users (Deactivated).
The settings control is not inside the Test Builder, but in the Subscription Admin Tool Tab of the Education
Desktop.

2. Click on the Subscription Tool Tab
3. Select the Application Settings Link (Manage Application Settings)
a. Click on the LS Test Builder Link
b. Use the slide bar to adjust the minimum number of questions
c. Percentage correct before a trophy & points are awarded
d. Disable
i. Select NO option -‘Enable Standards-based auto-generated testing’

Taking the Practice Tests


Teachers and School Administrators may take practice test just like students can. The Self Testing section will
create tests based on the number of test questions chosen or available for the benchmark selected and will
randomly pick State Standard Questions from the same database that the tests are created from.

Viewing the Auto-Generated Class Level Reports


When at the Auto-Generated Testing page each user sees their own points / trophies & test scores, this goes for Teacher &
School Administrator level accounts too. To see all the students, go to the Reports Section (Auto-Generated Reports) of the
Test Builder

Apperson Test Scanner Integration Enabled


If you own the Apperson Test Scanner Integration please contact LSCsupport@learningstation.com to learn how
you can use it with the LS Test Builder. If you do not own the scanner keep this setting on the No option.

Teacher
View the results of the Auto-Generated Testing completed by the students. This can be used also as a reward
system to encourage students to practice testing for the State Assessment Tests.

Students
Tracking is displayed on the top of the home page showing total points and trophy count, clicking on the subject
allows the student to start the Auto-Generated Testing.

2. Select the Standard Description to practice from the table
3. Click on Take Test link
4. From the drop-down menu select the number of questions
5. Click the Start Test button

School Indicator Grade
This standard report will display the Indicator Number, Description of the Indicator and the Percentage correct of all grade
levels that have taken tests.

1) Click on the link for this type of report


2) View report

Class Comparison
This report is a customized report based on Subject and Grade level of all tests that have been taken showing detail of
percentage correct by each user who has taken a test in the grade level designated.

Student’s view of LearningStation Test Builder
When the student launches the LearningStation Test Builder (LS TB) they will see the Tests that are
assigned in one table titled ‘Your Assigned Tests’. (Figure 21)

Viewing a Test that has been graded


The tests listed in the ‘Your Completed Tests’ table can be viewed at any time by the student or the
student’s parents by clicking on the name of the test.

Reading Test Tools

Taking a Test
Once they click on the name of the test it will open and the test will begin. The student will be able to go back
and check questions. They will not be able to go to the next question until they have answered the question they
are currently on. Once the test is graded, the student will be able to view the test results. They will need to click
on the link ‘return home’ to take the next test or review other tests that were taken.

Stopping & Starting a Test


Once they click on the name of the test it will open and the test will begin. If the student closes the test before
completing it, they can open the test and go forward to the last question that was answered. All answers are stored
up to the point the test was closed before completing.

Timed Test
The test will automatically grade when the time runs out no matter where the student is on the test.

Non-Timed Test
The student will have the option to stop the test without finishing and continue it at a later date. When the student
is finished answering all the questions they will need to click on ‘Finish’ button at which point the test will be
graded and show on the reports in the Teacher’s view of the LS TB.
