A. Essay

1. What is teaching as a profession?

Teaching is a noble profession. Teaching is to provide knowledge and


guidance, for molding the next generation towards development. Teachers
are not only having a passion of teaching but also learning. They went
through the same thing as what we do now as a student. They went to
school, to college and earned a degree before they finally set foot in our
classroom. Additionally, teachers must do the process of learning for a long
period of time and continue his/her professional development for them to
give a new knowledge as he continues his education. Hence, never become
so much of an expert that you stop gaining expertise. View teaching
profession as a continuous learning experience.

2. Does the teaching profession fulfill all the elements of a profession?


Explain your answer.

Yes, the teaching profession fulfilled all the elements of a profession as


he takes his four year-course which fulfilled the first element, the Initial
Professional Education. The accreditors also monitor the university programs
if it will provide adequate and quality education. Accreditation guaranteed
that the graduates from accredited programs start their professional lives
with the knowledge they need to perform their job effectively under the
second element. Skills development of teachers is necessary through
seminars, practice teaching and demonstration. Meanwhile, Licensing is the
most important in teaching profession, teacher must be able to pass their
board exam or the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET Examination)
administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to become a
Licensed Professional Teacher. However, teachers undergo schooling for
additional education to maintain or improves professionals’ knowledge and
skills after they begin professional practice. Professionals must also involve
in such organizations to see themselves as a part of the community, this
fulfill to Professional Society. All teachers must also fulfill the Code of

Ethics, which was designed to protect the rights of all the students. To be
fair and have a good relationship with their learners.

3. Why does a profession like teaching require long years of initial


professional education and continuing professional development?

Teaching profession requires a long years of initial professional education


and continuing professional development in order to acquire an adequate
knowledge and skills that they can apply in their teaching profession. Initial
professional education serves as platform or a training ground to enhance
their potentials and capabilities, and to boost their confidence to stand and
speak in front of their learners which is actually needed in actual teaching.
Above all, it is a must to continue the professional development because it
ensures the teacher to continue to be competent in their profession.
