1 Now it happened that he was in a certain place praying, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said, 'Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.' 2 He said to them, 'When you pray, this is what to say: Father, may your name be held holy, your kingdom come; 3 give us each day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, 4 for we ourselves forgive each one who is in debt to us. And do not put us to the test.' REFLECTION In this gospel, the disciples ask of Jesus to teach them how to pray, and Jesus taught them the Lord’s Prayer. Of all the prayers why that? It is because the Lord’s Prayer is the most ideal and complete prayer ever made. It consists of praising God, thanking God, asking for forgiveness, and asking for personal petitions. It is a complete set of everything we need to say to God every time we go to Him to pray and communicate. It is everything God expects to hear from us, that is why this is the prayer that Jesus told his disciples when they opened the question how to pray? Because we cannot call something a prayer if it is just about petitions, that is just a wish. We cannot call praying asking for forgiveness that is just confession. Prayer must contain everything we need to say to God.
