Q1: A slab was drawn on one side hot water flowing other side cold water.. how to
find heat transferred. temperatures of water given.
Q2. Water flowing through a pipe mass flow rate knwn temperatures at inlet outlet
given again heat flow was asked.
Q3. In answer of above question Cp was invloved so hw asked what is Cp?
Q4: Now other person asked fluid ati hai i said yes.. he asked what is fluid?it's
types? what is viscosity? it's unit? types of viscosity.
Q5: Draw laminar and turbulent velocity profiles for a pipe?? difference b/w
Laminar and Turbulent?? what tell about whether turbulent or laminar flow??
(Reynolds No.)? How to find it for square pipe.. (Concept of Hydraulic diameter)?
Q6: What is h in convection? What is overall heat transfer coefficient??
Mathematical relation for finding h?
Q7: Draw refrigeration cycle? (I did) what is throttling? Is it reversible or
irreversible process? What is C.O.P? Write relation for COP from cycle drawn?

Technical Interview

The interview panel comprised of Dr. Javed Hyder (Former Dean of Engineering), Dr.
Rizwan Alim Mufti (Head DME) and a delegate from KINPOE. Being a graduate of PIEAS,
I had a fair idea of the kind of questions i would be asked because I was familiar
with the major fields of the interviewers. I would like to pass on that advantage
to those who havent experienced such interviews.

Dr. Javed Hyder is one of the most knowledgeable faculty members in PEAS and has
been ranked in the top Mechanical Engineers in Pakistan for his research index. He
teaches many courses to BS students which include Thermodynamics, Internal
Combustion Engines, Computational and Finite Element Analysis, Machine Design and
Refrigeration. So expect alot of questions from these fields. You dont have to go
into the details because the questions are generally very basic. Do prepare the
Engine cycles (Otto, Gasoline, Diesel etc) , Refrigeration and power plant cycles
realy well. You should have these graphs on your finger tips.

Dr. Rizwan Alim Mufti is the Head of Mechanical Engineering Department and is
specialised in practical courses including Manufacturing Processes and Machining.
He also has admirable knowledge in Engines and Engineering Drawing. Expect lots of
questions from Machining processes.
