Hi awesome student! I’m MJ PERNITES, your Physical Education College Instructor. Welcome to our first modular
session. Are you excited? Let’s keep moving. In this module, you will discover the foundation of (PE-3) through learning
the various recreational activities. This is to prepare you to gain skills and deeper understanding on the scope of
Outdoor and Adventure Recreation, its benefits and values, and how to plan a recreation program.

At the end of this module, you will be able to:


- Manifest appreciation of the different recreational/outdoor activities in Physical

Education.

Activity 1

1. Swimming
It really helps me because it helps me drop pounds and I enjoy it. And it helps me build my strength and tone my
muscles.

2. Hiking
Hiking really helps me improved my bone density. It lowers my stress and enhance my relationship with my friends
and family.

3. Camping

It helps me how to be independent, self-reliance and have teamwork. It helps my health goal like lessen my stress,
have a good night sleep.

ACTIVITY 2
Share your own point of view. Is there any significance to you, as a College student, if you indulge yourself to any type
of Recreational/Outdoor activities? Defend your answer below.
→There is much significance in indulging yourself in any Recreational/Outdoor activities. You can gain
knowledge on what is the proper way of doing the activity. Physical activity based recreation helps us student recover
from the physical strength, caused by the lack of exercise, and develops the latent ability to achieve self-realization. This
also helps people to deal with common day to day problems more effectively as it makes the students more optimists
and with a positive outlook to life.
Recreational activities helps me in overall development of my physically, mentally, and emotionally. Not only
to gather knowledge but to use it ethically to lead a healthy and better life. It also helps enhances ones all round
development, thus helping to achieve success in ones endeavors.

Definition

Recreation is any enjoyable leisure experience in which the participant voluntarily engages and from which
he receives
immediate satisfaction, ( Carlson, et.al., 1963). It is also an activity which is performed for its own sake
during free time
which offers one joy and satisfaction and an outlet for his physical, mental, and creative powers (Vanniers,
1977)

Recreation comes from the Latin word recreare, which means to refresh or to restore.Whilefor others,
recreation is a voluntary activity that creates a diversion from work (Mull, et.al., 2005).

Outdoor recreation encompasses fishing in a mountain stream, contemplating a brilliant sunset, camping in
a park, planting a backyard garden, identifying unusual birds, or gathering shells on a beach. The basic
requirement for outdoor recreation is land (Carlson, et.al., 1963)

Leisure, in its narrowest sense of definition, is a mere diversion. In the highest sense, it is a developing,
creative, and re-creative experience. Leisure comes from the Latin word licere, meaning to be permitted
freedom or opportunity to do something of value (Vannier, 1977).
Free time is those hours remaining each day after work or school responsibilities are
completed. Play and Recreation

Recreation is different from play. Play is regarded as an activity which is done for rivalry, fulfilment and
enjoyment. Play therefore, is a spontaneous, physical activity for children. Recreation is a broad term.

What is the significance of this topic in your life as a College student?

→As a college student, having some time to our self is very important, for us to have some fun and enjoy our life.
Having fun with the family, friends and co-worker can boost your confidence in socializing. Doing some recreation
activities helps our body exercise in just a move. Like mountaineering, surfing in the ocean, running , walking and many
more. We could also volunteer in some activities to have more fun in life.

Recreation vs. Leisure


Recreation is indulging in thrilling and exciting activities, to derive some satisfaction and have fun in one’s
leisure time while leisure is spare free time that happens to have a disposal and the time we tend to spend in
our own aspects.

Recreation vs. Play


Recreation is a broad term while play is an activity which is done for rivalry, fulfilment and having fun times.

Leisure vs. Free Time


Leisure is a creative and re-creative experience. Free time is time spent away from business, work,
And education, as well as necessary activities such as eating and sleeping. 

APPLICATION
Directions: After reading the content of this module, we have learned so many things about the different
terminologies in Recreation and Outdoor Activities. This time, let’s put everything into practice.
Create an article about “The advantage/s of indulging one’s self in any type of recreational/outdoor activities”. You may
use the space at the back of this paper or you may also post your article in our class official FB page.

“The advantage/s of indulging one’s self in any type of recreational/outdoor activities”


Taking part in recreational activities, especially outdoors, can greatly improve our physical health. Those people,
who take in park activities such as walking, hiking, or skiing, schedule fewer office visits, maintain lower body fat
percentages, and have lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It really helps us to be healthy in our everyday lives.
Finding a way to stabilize the pressures of work and family with physical and mental wellbeing is important. People who
make recreation a priority are more likely satisfied with their lives overall.  Participating in recreational activities helps
manage stress. Taking time on nurturing oneself provides a sense of balance and self-esteem, in which it directly reduce
anxiety and depression of the person.
Through the recreational/outdoor activities, it helps a family to be united and have some bonding to ensure on staying
to each other’s side. And by volunteer to some activities like cleaning the streets, having a camping and enjoy on playing
with the other people. Being busy isn’t the same as being productive. If you engage in your tasks without having a break,
you’ll notice, at one point, your capacity decrease: you’ll become slower, mistakes will appear. Including recreational
activities in your routine will improve your professional performance. Making a routine that goods to your health and the
positive outlook on recreation is unlimited and endless in our world. There are great things that not only improve health
and wellness, but the building of self-esteem and stress reduction.
Recreational activities are a good way to practice transferable skills in a non-threatening situation. We gain a sense of
accomplishment and a feeling of pride as our sense of self improves. A sense of relaxation and stress reduction is
experienced. Participating in recreational activities increases overall activity level.
