These role cards present a series of simple situations for pre-intermediate and
intermediate-level learners, working in pairs. They could also be used for
higher levels, who should be encouraged to elaborate on the conversations and
make them more natural.

Preparation

The trainees will need to prepare with some common telephone expressions.

Before the class, the trainees are given photocopies of the role cards and
sample telephonic conversation between A and B

Procedure

 Trainees need to be put into pairs.


 Trainees need to be organized in pairs of chairs back to back or they
could be asked to stand back to back. This means they cannot see their
partners' faces or gestures.
 Trainees could replace different reasons for different situations.

While the other trainees are asked to listen to strike out the
words that they hear and find in the hand out, this activity
enhances their concentration and listen to particular
vocabulary .
