music is not performed or composed for as ritual.

FLORES DE MAYO

Is a festival held the Philippines in the month of

May. It is one the may devotions to blessed virgin
Mary it lasts for the entire month

SANTACRUZAN

It happens during the last day of the flores de

mayo when a procession of beautiful ladies of
the town is celebrated. The santacruzan (from
the Spanish santa cruz: holy cross) It honors
the finding of the true cross by Helena of
Constantinople (known as Reyna Elena) and
Constantine the great

MORO MORO

The term moro-more refers to type of folk drama

performed in villages throughout the Philippines,
Usually during fiestas. Although each village’s
moro-moro is a little different in terms of treatment,
all are full or romance and melodrama, and the
highpoint is always a battle between Muslims and
Christians.

SALUBONG

Salubong a Tagalog word meaning “to

welcome” or “to meet” is an annual
reenactment of the biblical account of virgin
Mary’s meeting with the resurrected Jesus
Christ.

SENAKULO

It is a Lenten play that describes events from the

old and new testaments related to the life,
suffering and death Christ. The passion plays or
eastern pageant is a dramatic presentation
depicting the passion of Jesus Christ his trial,
suffering and death.

PABASA NG PASYON

known simply as pabasa is a catholic devotion in the

Philippines popular during holy week involving the
uninterrupted chanting of the pasyon, an early 16
century epic poem narrating the life, passion, death, and
resurrection of Jesus Christ.

MASS

is a catholic faith was preached to the natives

through the introduction of the liturgical mass in
Latin text or in Pilipino catholic they called it
missa.

Secular Music

Music is non-religious music.  is any music not written for the church.

FOLK SONG
Folk song expresses the people’s everyday activities, costumes and beliefs which are put together as
music.

HARANA
Harana is a Filipino word for serenade, is a traditional practice of courtship in which a young man woos a
maiden through a song.

KUNDIMAN
Kundiman is a traditional Filipino song that express the lofty sentiment of love and even heroism, in a
passionate but melancholic mood. Melancholic mode means causing depressed or sadness.

THE RONDALLA ENSEMBLE

This is an ensemble that is traditionally composed of plucked stringed instruments introduced by the
Spaniards.

Here are the musical instruments of rondalla ensemble

Banduria – It is a pear-shaped plucked instrument with a round sound hole at the

center.

Laud – It is a plectrum-plucked instruments.

Octavina – It’s like a small guitar with a shorter neck.

Guitar – It has six string with a long-fretted neck. It has a flat

back and is curved at the sides.

Bajo De Uňas – It is also called “double bass/bassviol/contrabass, “the largest

rondalla instrument. Its shape is similar to the violin with f-sound holes.
