1. Lok Sabha passes the Right to Education Amendment Bill allowing the detention of
students Until Class VIII.

The Lok Sabha passed the right to education amendment bill 2018. This shall allow the detaining of students
of up to class VIII. This bill shall over rule many such High Courts judgements including the recent
judgement of Chhattisgarh High Court which stated that students up to class VIII cannot be failed or detained
at all. This amendment shall remove the absolute restriction of detaining a student up to class VIII due to
their right to promotion. Now students can be detained on reasonable grounds and will be given fair
opportunities for re-sit examinations. The original prohibition of no expulsion of any student until the
completion of elementary education (Up to class VIII) shall not be disturbed.

2. Jammu and Kashmir High Court allows movie goers to carry food and water inside
multiplexes and cinema theatres. Recently the government of Maharashtra also lifted ban
feom taking outside food and water inside all kind of cinema theatres.

3. High Court of Tripura ordered the state government to destroy cannabis crops in 6
months and also prevent from any further cultivation of the same. This is a step from the
hon’ble High Court towards the controlling of illegal drug trafficking in the state.

4. Uttarakhand High Court said that an adult son can’t demand maintenance from parents as
a right, but is the duty of the parents to maintain their son until he gets employment.

5. Civil Judges qualified through the Higher Judicial Services Exam can be appointed
as district judges : Supreme Court

The entry into the lower judiciary is through two levels, one through the civil judge examinations one
becomes a civil judge/judicial magistrate class II at the entry level. Second through the Higher Judicial
Services Examination in which one can appear after practicing for 7 years or being served as a judicial
officer for 7 years. This makes the direct appointment as additional district judges (ADJs).

6. The National Green Tribunal allowed the central and state governments to
appointment the persons with judicial backgrounds to the pollution control boards. The
National Green Tribunal came into existence in 2010 through the National Green Tribunal
Act 2010.

7. Chhattisgarh High Court has held that the Post Office is not liable for any damages to be
paid in case of any delay in the delivery of the speed post or postal articles.
