Teacher: Great!
The New Testament narrated and proclaimed Jesus Christ’s birth, teaching, Passion, Death and Resurrection. It also covers
God’s definitive covenant with all people mediated by His Incarnate Son, Jesus Christ. God’s commitment to all His people, which
Jesus sealed with His own blood sacrifice on the Cross, is the focus of the second part of the Bible.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------End of Session 1---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Teacher: Welcome back! Let us continue our second part of our discussion about New Testament.
While the Old Testament books are classified into three categories (The Law or Torah, The Prophets and The Writings). Let us
take a look the New Testament for us to understand it. Try to answer the following questions on a whole sheet of paper.
CHECK POINT!
Now, do you think studying the Gospel is still important in our lives today? Why or why not?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Teacher: Great! Reading the New Testament is the primary way to know Jesus. The four Gospels are the product of three distinct stages of
formation: the historical life of Jesus in Palestine, the Oral Tradition and finally the written Gospels.
Teacher: To sum it up, there is only one Jesus but there are four inspired Gospels. Each Gospel presents a different perspective on Jesus.
The Challenge of the Gospels to us Christians is to allow them to transform us.
Remember! The fruitful reading of Scripture is a gift from God. It is unfortunate that many of us especially the millennials do not take
advantage of this gift.

LESSON 2: Following Jesus as He Begins His Ministry
Recalling time!
Teacher: God the Son became man (incarnation) in Jesus. Jesus, truly God and truly human, is the core of our Christian faith.
Jesus fully entered our humanity and showed us what it means to be truly human and truly free.
Direction: reflect on the Preface to Eucharistic Prayer II below. See how it recalls the mysteries of Jesus’ earthly life.
“Father, it is our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give You thanks through Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ. He
is the Word through whom You made the universe, the Savior You sent to redeem us. By the power of the Holy Spirit, He took
flesh and was born of the Virgin Mary. For our sake He opened His arms on the cross; He put an end to death and revealed the
resurrection. In this He fulfilled Your will and won for You a holy people.”

Teacher: Jesus, God’s beloved Son, was sent to accomplish the work of redemption, which was ritually inaugurated at His
baptism. Jesus overcame all obstacles and temptations to fulfill the tremendous mission given Him by His Father. Through our
baptism we also participate in Jesus’ mission here on earth.
Message/Proper Hierarchy
The Temptation Jesus’ Response of Values Our Response
Teacher: Well done! We are called to have exactly the same priorities. The living Word of God addresses the same temptations
in Jesus’ time and our time today.
