Operations
OPERATIONS
Transporting the Golden Eagle Rake
The Golden Eagle is highly mobile and very highway friendly. It will fold up to 8’6” (legal road width) for
highway travel.
The best way to transport the rake is with a gooseneck style hitch with a pickup. You can also use a bumper
style hitch, however towing from the bumper creates uneven weight distribution and is not recommended.
The tongue weight of the Golden Eagle is approximately 1,700 lbs. The rake
can be pulled by a pickup either from a gooseneck position or a ball on a hitch
secured to the frame.
Leveling the rake is very important to good operation and longer wear of the
depth bands. To level the rake, start out on level ground and adjust the telescope
of the gooseneck style hitch. Four 1/2” set-screws are located on the side of the
stationary part of the hitch. Using the provided implement jack, remove the
weight of the tongue off of the draw bar while attached to the ball.
Loosen the jam nuts on the set-screws, then loosen the set-screws. A level is
provided and attached to the top frame of the tongue above the I.D. plate. Using
the jack, raise or lower the rake to level. The rake must be level after weight is
back on the draw bar. Make sure to not over-tighten the set-screws. They must
be tight enough to indent the steel but not collapse the tubing of the tongue. Make sure to retighten the set-
screw jam nuts.

Electric Over Hydraulic Operation
Mounting the control box into the tractor cab
If the rake is to remain on the same tractor for the entire season, then hard-mounting the control box is rec-
ommended. If not, then you will need to mount the box with an easily
detached bracket.
The control box will need 12V of power. A cigar lighter cord is pro-
vided. If your tractor does not have this feature, you will need to hard-
wire the cord to a 12V source. The electric over hydraulic rake will
only require one hydraulic remote.
The electric rake has four valve functions. Lifting and lowering the
rake wheels, independent wing angle, and steering. To open your rake
you must be moving forward.
Open rake to desired width. When first operating this rake, practice
this process a short while before attempting to open the wings or oper-
ate the rake in the field.
Open the wings to the desired angle. This can also be adjusted while moving but it is not necessary. The
angle is very important to the operation of the depth bands. You must keep the angle as steep as possible,
assuring the movement of the entire windrow. You must be careful to not make too much of an adjustment at
one time as the wings are out and will come together, balling up the hay.
Cylinder stops are provided for the wing angle cylinders, but are not necessary. After your width and angle are
established in coordination with your cutter width, you can mark these positions using the cylinder stops.
Add or remove stops until desired wing width is met. After this is done you will simply need to open the rake
all the way in each position every time it is used, and no adjustments will be needed unless you change to a
field that has a different cutter width windrow.
Frame width adjustments are done using the steering cylinder. Cylinder stops are used to determine the distance
between the main frame rake arms. Different sized stops are used for adjustments. Each rake comes with 4
stops/sizes. Once you have the stops in place, you should not have to make adjustments unless you change the
windrow width. Always open the steering cylinder up against the stops in order to prevent hydraulic floating.
Flotation adjustment
Adjusting the flotation of the rake wheels is very important to the depth band operation and wear life. There
are two ways to adjust the flotation. The first one can be done on each individual wheel. This rough ad-
justment is to shorten or lengthen the spring chain. These adjustments allow you to set the flotation of the
wheels to be exactly the same for each wheel, or you can adjust all the wheels on the wing at one time by us-
ing the single point adjustment located at the front of the wings. It is important to keep the flotation adjusted

properly daily. This is especially necessary the first few weeks of operation, as the springs will slightly
stretch.
You must run the wheels as light as possible. To adjust the wheels
properly, the depth bands must maintain contact with the ground at
all times so the tines will not penetrate the ground. Once you have
adapted this rake to your environment you will be able to achieve
the perfect flip.
The Wheel Hub assemblies should be checked frequently in the first 300 miles of transporting the Golden Eagle
at highway speeds. Hubs that show signs of heat buildup, including but not limited to, peeling paint, hot to the
touch, or steaming and smoking should be checked immediately for proper lubrication. After 300 miles check the
hubs on regular daily checks for wear or heat damage to ensure that the hubs continue to work properly.
The hubs should be repacked prior to each season of use to ensure that they are in working condition for that
season.
1. Check and maintain tire pressure using specs identified on the sidewall of the tires. Regularly check lug
nuts for tightness.
2. Check for hydraulic leaks in hoses, fittings, and cylinders. Tighten, repair, and replace as often as needed.
A parts list with hydraulic specs is in the back of this manual.
3. Check for missing or damaged lights and safety signage. Repair and replace as needed.
