THE ADVANTAGES OF AutoCAD

AutoCAD is widely used for its precision and flexibility. It allows the user to create
both in 2D and 3D, translating spatial information into precise drawings and plans. Three-
dimensional objects can easily be viewed from various perspectives, from a whole plan in
top view, in an isometric diagram, or a blow-up connection detail. It is a workspace that can
be easily shared between various professionals involved in the design such as architects,
engineers, suppliers, and so on, for coordination and a common reference. The entirety of a
design and construction package can be performed in AutoCAD, making it easier to collate
drawings across all professions and to inspect for inconsistencies in the overall design.

THE VALUES OF AN ARCHITECT

Responsibility and proper work ethic. Designing spaces and structures entails a lot of
responsibility both in the quality of work and in effective coordination. The architect is
responsible for looping everybody into the process. We ensure that the quality meets the
set design standard, that the overall design is agreeable to the client, that the engineers
understand the scope of the project and their designs are congruent, that the materials are
available locally and are within the clients budget, that the contractors are properly briefed
and open to coordination throughout the construction process, and so forth.
Being the architect means you are in charge of overseeing the project from
conception to construction, and it is important to have a logical and ethical standpoint in
performing these tasks. I highly value professionalism in the field, and am very strict with
how I conduct myself professionally, from being on time for meetings to being the
arbitrator/mediator for conflicts of interest among stakeholders. Having an understanding of
people and knowing how to impart on them the overarching goal that we are trying to
achieve as professionals, I think, is good to have in practice.

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER AS YOUR STRENGTH/S AND WEAKNESS/ES IN THE FIELD OF

ARCHITECTURE?
My strengths are in planning and project management. I like to plan ahead and
organize the process, considering all the stakeholders and available resources. It helps to be
organized and have a documenting standard in place, especially as the project goes into the
construction phase. I am also a critical thinker, which I apply in coming up with design
solutions for the client and applying logic and aesthetic in the spaces I’ve designed.
My weakness is in the lack of site experience. I have experience in site visits and
regular punch-listing, but the experience gained from being an architect on-site is much
more immersed. The level of know-how that can be gained from being physically present
and responsible for the process of construction is something I have yet to achieve. I have
worked with individuals who are highly competent in that field, and I have learned much
from them in theory. It is a vast field of knowledge I continually pursue by creating good
relations with contractors, suppliers, and engineers whom I can consult with in times of
doubt.
