Project Name Investigating the effects of blow molding process parameters on PET bottles quality
Project Leader Hussein Ali Al-Amili Sponsor Suha Saed
Team members Rana Taha Ahmed
Start Date: Completion date

1. Backgrounds (What is the concern or issue that is the driver for the project ? Why it needs to 5. Business benefits (What are main business reasons for the Project together with specific
be done? What are the implications of not doing it?) metrics? e.g. yield improvement of 2%)

The BM process is characterized by several factors, namely: Temperature, Blowing Pressure, and Heating 1. Decrease the total PET bottle waste due to improper BM process parameters.
modules distribution. The bottle properties were defined 2. Increasing the PET bottle QC/QA compliance by 15%.
by the thickness profile, pressure resistance, and section weight. The aim of the project was to identify which 3. Increasing the production efficiency by 5%.
factor contribute to the listed properties and how can the PET bottles quality in general be improved. Several
statistical samples were taken from the BM machine during production for the purpose performing the
required test.

2. Objectives (What specific, measurable results are expected at the end of the project?) 6. Resources (People or departments that are interested or affected by the project)
1. Identify which BM factors contribute the most to the PET bottle quality control factor, i.e. section weight 1. Quality controller
(for 500ml bottle’s base using 12.4 g preform). 2. Production engineer
2. Perform the required statistical testing by varying the BM process parameters and monitoring the
results.
3. Documenting process changes. 7. Stakeholders (People or departments that are interested or affected by the project)
4. The overall test result should result in the overall PET bottle quality (more precisely, section weight).
1. QC dept
2. Production dept
3. Scope (Be specific about what is included and excluded from this project)
The project test process control parameters were:
1. Temperature. 8. Constraints (Things that you must take into consideration during the project but cannot change?
2. Pre-Blow pressure. i.e. deadlines, regulatory requirements, procurement rules)
3. Phase Angle.
The project control tests monitored the following PET bottle property: 1. Temperature: 98C to 125C.
• Section Weight of the bottle’s base . 2. Pressure: 6 – 12 Bar.

4. Deliverables (What are the major products/deliverables that are necessary to achieve the 9. Risks (A summary of any known threats (and opportunities) facing the project)
objectives of the project?)
• Production interruption.
• Improving the PET bottle quality (more precisely, section weight). • Product Waste.
• Reducing product waste. • Production of low quality product.
• Improving the production line effecincy.
