center today for the well-child appointment. Jim's mother asks to speak with you privately. She
explained that she is concerned about Jim's fixation with genitals. She also said that Jim has forgotten
what she taught him about his private parts

How will you act to the mother’s concern?

I will give an explanation regarding to his son, that Jim is experiencing Phallic stage where the child
becomes aware of anatomical sex differences, which sets in motion the conflict between erotic
attraction, resentment, rivalry, jealousy and fear which Freud called the Oedipus complex (in boys) and
the Electra complex (in girls). Oedipus complex is when his son is becoming unconsciously sexually
attached to his mother, and hostile towards his father who he views as a rival. And wherein Oedipus
complex is an essential developmental phase every child goes through and is appropriate for the age of
his son. Though there is a need for observation and guidance so that his son can get over with the phallic
stage or the so-called Oedipus complex and achieve better growth and development.

What guidelines would you use to advise the mother regarding Jim’s condition?

I will make use of Sigmund Freud's Psychosexual Stages of Development, particularly the Phallic stage
wherein it states that at his age it is completely normal. And advise the presence of Jim’s father so that
his son can resolve the problem through a process called identification. Identification means internally
adopting the values, attitudes, and behaviors of another person. Because Jim, at his age already exhibits
experimental or goal-directed behavior that may be creatively and spontaneously adapted for new
purposes.

What nursing interventions can you provide for the family

It's a big deal. Ok lang magsuot ng ganyan kung nasa bahay ka or kung may occassion na ganyan
talaga ang suot. Pero to 'undress' like that sa public space without even thinking kung anong
mararamdaman ng ibang tao is so disrespectful sa community at sa culture natin which is so
against too much revealing clothes. Hindi porque trending 'to sa ibang bansa ay makikiuso tayo.
