Each year the Glasgow High School Leadership class
presents a “traveling trophy” in recognition of outstanding
Scotty Homecoming support. This year it went to BS
Central, home of the BS Buzz! Tatum Provencher (at
left) and Carly Nelson (at right) presented the engraved
plaque to Sanchez and Rachel, and it is displayed with
Scotty Pride in our front office. In other news, Iris McKean
chalked up another win at the Nemont Invitational
Cross Country Meet at Kiwanis Park yesterday with an
excellent time of 19:32.9 to help lead the Scotties to
a first place finish. The boys finished in third with Karl
Zabrocki placing 2nd with his new PR of 16.51.

Montana Department of Commerce Tourism Grant Program is now open

Department will begin accepting
applications for the Tourism Grant
Program now through November 30
for the 2021 grant cycle.
The Tourism Grant Program
funds projects that strengthen
Montana’s economy through the
development and enhancement of
Montana’s tourism and recreation
industry. A total of $750,000 is
available for projects that develop
and enhance tourism and recreation
products that have the potential to
increase non-resident visitation.
“Montanans in the tourism
and recreation industries are
finding innovative ways to adapt to
the ever-changing realities of the
global COVID-19 pandemic,” said
Commerce Director Tara Rice. “The
Department of Commerce looks
forward to supporting tourism and
recreation projects as we recognize

for a Tourism Grant include registered non-profit 501(c)

Funds will be awarded to tourism and recreation
projects that fall within the categories of:
• Arts/Culture /Heritage Preservation: projects that
preserve, protect, or restore Montana’s arts, culture,
and/or heritage treasures
• Visitor Facility Upgrades/Construction: projects that
will enhance the non-resident visitor experience and
increase expenditures
• Niche Product Development: projects of interest to non-
resident visitors as identified in Montana Destination

on Tuesday celebrated President Trump signing their
bipartisan bill into law that will name a ridge near
Emigrant Peak the “B-47 Ridge” in honor of four
servicemen who tragically died in a B-47 Bomber crash.
On July 23, 1962, a B-47 Bomber originating from
Dyess Air Force Base in Texas carrying four men on a
routine training mission crashed into the southwestern
slope of Emigrant Peak located north of Yellowstone
National Park, killing everyone on board. Capt. Bill
Faulconer, Lt. Lloyd Sawyers, Lt. David Sutton, and Lt.
Fred Hixenbaugh all tragically lost their lives serving
our country.

D’oh! Last Guy Left In California Gets
Stuck Paying The $140 Billion Tax Bill
LOS ANGELES, CA—With high taxes, low electricity,
and everything on fire, people continue to leave
California. One man, Warren Stanley, was determined
to stay, though.
“I just enjoy the climate,” he explained.
But he got a surprise this morning when he received
a tax bill in the mail for $140 billion.
“As the last person remaining in California,”
stated the letter from California Governor Gavin
Newsom (who now works remotely from income tax-
free Florida), “you’re going to have to pay all the taxes.
Thanks for choosing our great state!”
“Aw, man,” Stanley whined. “I knew I hadn’t seen
my neighbors in a while, but I didn’t think I was the
last.”
Stanley says he doesn’t think he’ll be able to pay
the tax bill, as most of his income goes to paying his
rent. If he doesn’t pay it, though, he’ll be arrested for tax
evasion — though it will take a while for the police to
get him since they all live out of state.

Saturday is Senior Night

Saturday afternoon the Glasgow Scotties will host
one of the toughest teams in Class A, the Glendive Red
Devils. The volleyball match will be Senior Night as
the Scotties will honor their seniors and Pink Night,
which observes Breast Cancer Awareness Month, was
Wednesday against Wolf Point.
The Scotties will lose three seniors – setter Rachelle
Glaser, middle blocker/outside hitter Riley Noser, and
Sheree Cook.
“Riley is really fun to coach because she is really
strong,” said Scotty Coach Somer Hoerster. “She’s got
a great swing and a good serve. She has a really great
attitude all the time. She smiles and has lots of energy.
She’s a nice leader on the court. I love coaching Riley for
the last few years.”
Glaser has been the Scotties’ setter for all four
years.
“She can do it all,” said Hoerster. “She can serve,
pass and set, get kills and blocks really well for her size.
This sport is really important to her. She definitely gives
it her all. She makes every open gym. Rachelle is crucial
to us on the floor.”
Cook has played on the junior varsity and may see
some action on the varsity against Glendive.
“She moved her a few years ago. She’s a tiny little
thing,” said Hoerster. “She has a great swing and a great
jump. She’s really grown a lot with her ability in the last
couple of years. We’re trying to find ways to put her in
the rotation this week. She’s a really nice kind and easy
to coach and does whatever you ask of her.
Glasgow picked up a District 2B victory when the
Scotties hosted Wolf Point in a makeup match from
Sept. 3. Like the last time the Scotties played the Wolves,
it was another sweep, 25-19, 26-24 and 25-6.
“We’re at the point whether we get to play or not
with the way things are going,” said Hoerster.
Glasgow (7-5, 3-0) did take on two non-conference
foes last week, sweeping Class A Sidney, 25-16, 25-10
and 25-8 on Thursday night on the Eagles floor. But
Saturday night it was over to Plentywood where the
Scotties tangled with the Class C wildcats.
Plentywood has advanced to the state tournament
the last two years where the Wildcats finished fourth
last year and lost out in two matches the prior year. In
the meeting with the Scotties, Plentywood won in five
sets. This time around it went to four sets before the
Wildcats pulled out a win, 25-20, 25-20, 15-25 and 25-
19.
Hoerster noted that they had a two and a half hour
bus trip both nights. Her squad played well against
Sidney, but was a little flat at the start with Plentywood.
“You just never know what is going to happen.
We can out a little cold and didn’t play well the first
two games,” said Hoerster. “We bounced back and
had a really good game three. Volleyball is a game of
momentum and the break in between three and four
it was tough to get rolling, and then we had some
mistakes that hurt us. The kids couldn’t bounce back,
but getting to play a team that has hitters like they have,
it was crucial. Typically we’re not going to see kids like
that until we get to a state tournament.”
Plentywood has two six-footers that help in the
lineup and with the rotation there is always one of them
in the front row.
“They’re lucky to have two like that that can hit the
ball the way they can,” said Hoerster.
Glendive won the match in the first meeting,
sweeping the Scotties. But the Scotties were without
Noser, who had sprained her ankle two nights prior to
that match.
“They have a couple of good hitters also and they
know how to play,” said Hoerster.
Glasgow fans will get a full slate of volleyball next
week as the Scotties will host Harlem in a double-header
on Tuesday, travel to Malta for a match Thursday and
host Poplar in another twinbill Saturday. Five matches
in five days.
“The girls should be in shape to play two matches
back-to-back,” said Hoerster. “If we were playing in any
tournaments this year they would have to be ready to go
quickly.”
