Title: Rizal Bill

Topic: Reviving our dying nationalism and identity through inclusion of Rizal as a subject
Theme: If studying Rizal’s life and works was banned then we may never be enlightened to the
happenings in our history, to the problem that we had as a Filipino and also we will not be aware
to our current situation, thus inclusion of Rizal subject in our curriculum will give us a roadmap
to achieve nationalism and real freedom.

I. Introduction
a. According to the Official Gazette, the mere fact that the Act (RA No. 1425) was
passed on the date of our independence seeks to stir up a greater sense of fervour
in the Filipino, to believe in their own country and national identity—who we are
as a nation. Republic Act No. 1425 is an act mandated to include in the curricula
of all public and private schools, colleges and universities courses on the life,
works and writings of Jose Rizal, particularly his novels, Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibustersimo, authorizing the printing and distribution thereof, and for other
purposes.
b. Reviving our dying nationalism and identity through inclusion of Rizal as a
subject is obviously the main reason why we need to study “The Life and Works
of Rizal” as a foundation of our country.
c. These are my takes to support my topic: 1). mandating Rizal subject to our
curricula as a way of paying tribute to our worthwhile hero for devoting his life
and works in shaping the Filipino character. 2). mandating Rizal subject to our
curricula as a way of inspiring youth to the ideals of freedom and nationalism and
to provide insights on how to deal with current problems, and 3).mandating Rizal
subject to our curricula as a way of recognizing or promoting the importance of
education in all aspect.

II. Body
a. Mandating Rizal subject to our curricula as a way of paying tribute to our
worthwhile hero for devoting his life and works in shaping the Filipino character.
i. By means of studying the life and works of Rizal, we can commemorate
the greatest contribution of him and other heroes in making our country
free from invaders.
ii. His literary works that tackles the character of the Filipinos like his
novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo which discusses the impact
of injustices of friars to the character development of Filipinos during that
time or other pieces such as La Indolencia which discusses the reasons
why Filipinos are lazy in connection with the colonization.
b. Mandating Rizal subject to our curricula as a way of inspiring youth to the ideals
of freedom and nationalism and to provide insights on how to deal with current
problems
i. History repeats itself! It has a connection on the situations that we’re
facing today. With better understanding to the concept of nationalism and
freedom, it will awaken us to appreciate and conserve more what our
forefathers fought for us.
ii. Examples of related problems from past that happen today: toxic culture
and mentality, abused of powers, fighting for territory (West Philippine
Sea), the oppressed, the youth gradually decreasing participation in our
country’s growth, and greedy politicians who rather put their own agenda
before their countrymen.
c. Mandating Rizal subject to our curricula as a way of recognizing or promoting the
importance of education in all aspect.
i. It is a way of encouraging youths or students to follow the footstep of Jose
Rizal in valuing education with great importance on his life. Continuing
the legacy of Rizal by participating in outside activities that shows
compassion to the society.
ii. How Jose Rizal values education: its impact to poverty, wellbeing and
economic development.

III. Conclusion
a. More than anything he wrote, it was what Rizal did that has much to teach us. His
life was his greatest work and studying this creates a big impact on me. It is really
true that inclusion of Rizal in our curriculum (curricula) will help us to pay tribute
to our worthwhile hero for devoting his life and works in shaping the Filipino
character, to inspire us (youth) to the ideals of freedom and nationalism and to
provide insights on how to deal with current problems, and to recognize or
promote the importance of education in all aspect of our life.
b. If you really appreciate the importance of studying Rizal, are you willing to apply
the knowledge you learn from the subject for the betterment of our country?
