Valve Set
1/2 Inch Drive, 3377371 E ngine B a rrin g G ear
m Locate Top Dead Center (TDC) for C ylinder Number 1 by
barring the crankshaft slowly while pressing on [he en­
gine tim ing pin.

Locate top dead center

When the timing pin engages in the hole in the camshaft


near. Cylinder N um ber 1 is at TDC OH the compression
stroke,

When the timing pin is located in the hole on the


camshaft gear then

No 1 on compression stroke at TDC

NOTE: To prevent damage to Ihe engine or tirmng pin, be


sure to disengage the timing pin after locating TDC.

Remove pin after TDC is located

Feeler Gauge
Intake Clearance: 0.£54 mm [0.010 in].
Exhaust Clearance: 0.503 mm [0.020 In].
Check/sat valves wi fh en g i n e cold - be low 00 " C [140“ F].
NOTE: The cisararroe is corFsct when some resistance Is
■Tell" when the feeler gauge is slipped betwaen the valve
stam and the rodkar iever,
NOTE: Caution must be used when setting the exhaust valve
lash on marine cylinder heads with rotators. The lop of the
valve stem is stightEy recessed below the top of the valve
relator.

Four Cylinder Engine Adjustment


14 mm, Flat Blade Screwdriver
Locate Top Dead Center (TDC) for Cylinder Number 1.
Chec Wad just the valves as Indicated rn the illustration (I
■=■ intake, E = Exhaust).
Tighten tha locknut and m easure the valve laah again.
Torque VfliUS- 24 N»m [16 ftThJ
