Assessment 6a: Principle of Life and Dignity of the Human Person

1. The Catholic tradition teaches that “the dignity of the human person, realized in community with
others, is the criterion against which all aspects of economic life must be measured.” Give examples of
how this teaching is both implemented and ignored. (One example that show how it is implemented and
another example on how it is ignored.)

The role of the Church in finding solutions to the problems created by the major changes in the modern
world is represented in the Social Doctrine. It is a point regarding the impact of the Christian faith on
culture. The theological and moral teachings of the Church arising from a thorough contemplation and
study of the complex realities of human life are this doctrine. The intention is to view social reality
according to the Christian teaching on man and his vocation for the guidance of all Christians in their
relations with society. This doctrine is based on biblical insights, the tradition of the Fathers of the As
such, since the Church works exclusively at the moral and theological level, this social theory does not
pretend to address the technological and institutional problems of managing a society. Its aim is the
realization of justice, understood in its earthly and spiritual existence as the development and total
liberation of the human being.

2. How can we live out this call to protect every person’s life and dignity?

As of now we cannot really do something that big to change everything or just to protect ever person’s
life and dignity but in our simple prayer could help to enlighten the minds of people. Our simple deeds
or act of goodness can start in changing everyone to protect everyone. A pebble can actually move a
mountain.

3. What is/are your reflection/s on the prayers?

Prayer for Life

Eternal God.
creator and sustainer of life
bless us with the courage to defend all life
from conception to natural death.
Bless us with the strength to respect
all peoples from east to west, from north to south,
so that we may truly follow
the call of Jesus
to be neighbor.
We ask this in the name of Jesus,
who lives and reigns
With you and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.1
My reflection in this prayer is quite simple, which is God is the only creator and sustainer of life in which
He alone can take it away from us. With this precious life given to us, we humans should give our best in
giving the best life not just to us but to everyone from womb to tomb.
