Coolant Specification January 2020

There has been a change to the coolant specification for all Perkins engines except the 1300 Series engine. It is
preferred that on the initial coolant fill or at the next service interval that the coolant is changed to Perkins Extended
Life Coolant (ELC).

Notes:
Perkins recommends a 50 volume percent glycol and water of the correct specification (also referred to as 1:1
mixture). This mixture will provide optimum performance as a coolant/antifreeze.
For applications not requiring freeze protection (where the ambient temperature does not drop below
10 °C (50 °F), Perkins Extended Life Inhibitor (ELI) can be used in place of Perkins ELC.
There are many benefits for the coolant:
Perkins ELC uses virtually non-depleting corrosion inhibitors for maximum protection for the six basic metal
alloys: aluminium, brass, cast iron, copper, solder and steel.
It has a service life of 6000 service hours or 3 years which ever is sooner.
Pre-mixed to 50 volume percent glycol and water of the correct specification for optimum protection.
Coolants that have 50 volume percent ethylene glycol and water provide protection to a freezing point of -37 °C
(-35 °F).
Coolants that have 50 volume percent ethylene glycol and water provide additional protection against boiling to
106 °C (223 °F) with the boiling protection increasing with the use of a pressurized radiator.

Cautions:
If ELC is used to initially fill the 2300, 2500 and 2800 Series engines during commissioning, refer to Service
Bulletin - General 200 issue 1, September 2006
If the recommended coolant and procedures are not used, Perkins Engines Company Limited cannot be held
responsible for damage caused by frost, corrosion, cavitation erosion or for loss of cooling efficiency.

Notes:
 Perkins ELC must not be mixed with other products or further diluted.
If frost protection is not necessary, it is recommended to use Perkins ELI (Perkins part number T402623) that is
available in a 1 litre container. This is because Perkins ELI gives a protection against corrosion and cavitation
erosion.
Before changing to Perkins ELC it is important that the cooling system is drained and cleaned.
Perkins ELC is the preferred coolant for use in all Perkins engines except the 1300 series engine. The
recommended coolant for the 1300 series engine is specified in the 1300 series User’s Handbook.
If required, safety data sheets are available for Perkins coolant products on www.Perkins.com.
