Zeci de mii de oameni au murit ieri în timpul cutremurului din Palmona. Clădirile s-au înclinat
si s-au prăbuşit. Centrul orasului a fost complet distrus. Pentru cei rămaşi fără acoperis
deasupra capului s-au pregătit adăposturi in tabere dincolo de oraş. Multi oameni asteaptă
scoaterea de sub dărâmături a trupurilor celor apropiati. Grupele de salvare, ajutate de caini,
ii caută pe supravieţuitori. Pentru a depista mai rapid oamenii de sub dărâmături, grupele de
salvare se folosesc de dispozitive speciale. Actiunea de salvare este ingreunată de ger.
Spitalele s-au dărâmat, astfel încât răniților li se acordă ajutor în condiții de campanie. Se
termină rezervele de sânge. S-a lansat un apel pentru ajutor international.

9. EARTHQUAKE 2

Tens of thousands of people died yesterday during the Palmona earthquake. The buildings
tilted and collapsed. The city center was completely destroyed. For those left with a roof
above thier head, shelters have been set up in camps outside the city. Many people are waiting
for the bodies of their relatives to be removed from the rubble. Rescue teams, helped by dogs,
are searching for survivors. To quickly detect the people that are under the rubble, rescue
teams use special devices. The rescue action is hampered by frost. The hospitals have been
demolished, so the injured people are being helped in campaign conditions. The blood supply
is running out. An international call for help has been launched.
