TECHNOLOGIES APPLIED TO MARITIME BORDER PROTECTION
GMV provides an integrated solution for Maritime Surveillance using the most advanced technologies: land and space
sensors, command and control, data fusion, data mining, etc. Following are some of the realities on which GMV has

SIGO
Spanish Search and Rescue (SAR) Operations Centre.

Includes Decision Aids for:


- Search and rescue operations.
- Fight against sea pollution.
- Management of traffic schemes in focal areas (Finisterre
Cape, Strait of Gibraltar, Gata Cape).
- NFFI v1.4.1. compliant.

MACAIS
Coastal AIS system of Madeira and Azores islands.
- 13 AIS base stations.
- 4 logical stations.
- 2 control centers (Azores and Madeira).

All stations use proprietary AIS data acquisition software


compatible with IALA and IMO standards and regulations.

A dedicated Web server provides internet display of ship


surveillance (proprietary GIS engine that accepts S57 and
ESRI charts).

MARISS
MARISS is a project funded by the European Space
Agency within the GSE program (GMES Service Element).

The main objective is to develop services using as main


input satellite technologies in support of maritime
security.

GMV is one of the main actors in the project and is


bringing services to key players in the maritime security
domain at Spanish National and International level.
MARCIA VTS
The objective is to upscale the AIS Network to VTS with
the integration of port radar system. Merging AIS and
radar target information will improve maritime surveillance
reliability.

EMSA EUROPEAN AIS NETWORK STUDY


GMV develops for the European Maritime Safety
Agency (EMSA) a prototype for integrated European AIS
networks.

LIMES
The purpose is to provide services to monitor both vessel
and cargo movements for reasons of maritime safety,
policing and border security over coastal and open ocean
areas.

INTEGRA
Spanish government funded research program focused in
the definition and implementation of new techniques to
bring effective maritime surveillance from Space (including
surveillance, navigation and telecommunications
technologies).

MARSUR EXCHANGE SYSTEM (MEXS) INTERFACE SPECIFICATION AND DESIGN


The European Maritime
Surveillance (EMS) System
is built by connecting
national Maritime
Surveillance Systems (MSS)
by mean of the MARSUR
Exchange System (MEXS)
with minimum modification
to the existing MSSs. The
MEXS nodes are the
building blocks which are
plugged-in by local
information brokers.
