Music Background

http://www.vectordiary.com
By: Michael Brown

This tutorial will take you through the process of creating a music background step by step. If
you like working on Illustrator then today I am going to teach you a very nice tutorial, which
is going to help you a lot in becoming the professional designer. You will also get to know
about the hidden/special effects present in the illustrator with the help of this tutorial. So let
us get started. In this tutorial, we draw all objects from scratch in illustrator only and will not
import any object from outside.

Setting Up Your Scene

1. First, let us open a new document. To open a new document you will go to File > New,
when you click on New, a new document will open. As you can see in the image above,
we will first name the file and after that, we will input the sizes of the artboard. One
important thing that we should always remember is that we need to keep the color
mode in the document to RGB, so that the image looks like an original image.

2. Right now, you can see two parts in this image, first part is the colorful background and
the other part is the speakers. So let us first start working on the speakers.

3. To make the speaker lets first take a circle as you can see in the image.

4. After making the circle, we will put gradient in it. See the image shown here.

5. After filling the circle with gradient, it will appear like the image shown above. Let’s
proceed and make one more circle, but remember that this circle will be slightly smaller
than the other circle, which we have made. We will put gradient in this circle too. See the
image shown below.

6. Follow this, Object > Path > Offset Path. You will see a window like this.

7. Let us proceed further and we will implement the same technique but this time we will
put 7px in the offset to get more depth in the image & we will change the color of the
gradient too.

8. We will again use the same technique, which we used in the first offset, & our image will
look something like this.

9. Now we will make one more circle in this image as you can see in the image below and
by using the first circle we’ll trim this circle. To trim it follow this, Window>Pathfinder.
You will see a window as shown here in the image.

10. Now copy shape above and press Ctrl + F, by doing so you will get one more shape,
which will divide the above image in 2 parts, as you can see in the image here.

11. Once the shape is divided, put the gradient color in it and the sample value of gradient is
given here.

12. Similarly fill the gradient color in other side too.

13. We have almost completed the speaker. Now we will make a shape, which is shown in
the red box in the image below. After making this image, we will place it on the speaker,
which is shown via pointer/arrow.

14. Now we will make small circles or dots with gradients and place them on the image on
the left side. See the image shown below.

15. Now let us make a circle that is shown in the image below. This circle is filled with
gradient and it is trimmed from the center. We’ll place this shape on the speaker.

16. Now we will work on an important part of the speaker that is the rounded part of the
speaker shown in the middle. To make this round circle we will first make a circle and fill
it with gradient color. The sample value of color is shown in the image below.

17. As we have used the offset path effect earlier too, we will again use the same effect
here as well. See the image shown below.

18. Let us once again use the offset path and fill gradient in the middle. After this, with the
help of Pen Tool, we will make a shape, which you can see in the image shown below.
Now open the pathfinder window and select the gradient circle with the shape and
then give the divide command from the pathfinder window.

19. After giving the divide command from the pathfinder window, gradient circle will be
divided in 2 shapes. Now change the rotation of the right hand side gradient. After
changing the rotation our image will look something like this.

20. Now place this shape on the speaker.

21. So now we have completed our final image which looks something like this.

22. Now drag this speaker from bottom and compress it. It will now look something like this.

23. We’ll place a compressed circle under it.

24. Now let’s rotate this speaker something like this and press Alt + Shift to copy one more
speaker which we’ll place next to this speaker like a reflection. Moreover, we’ll make it a
little smaller in size.

25. Now we’ll work on the speaker given in the background. This is a simple speaker which is
modified with a little less detailing after copying the speaker which is there in the top
part. You can delete the 2 shapes which are marked with the red arrows.

26. Now place the shape of this speaker as shown in the image below.

27. To make the background first we will take a long box and fill it with gradient as you can
see in the image.

28. In addition, we will copy paste this box at many places by decreasing & increasing its
size. It will look something like this.

29. Now we’ll mask this shape with the artboard. To mask the shape, make the artboard
similar to the size of the box and place the gradient shape made in the earlier step under
the box , then press Ctrl + 7. Our image will look something like this now.

30. Place a black box behind this shape.

31. Lets make some stars which will give a perfect look to the background. To make the stars
look at the steps discussed below.

32. Now copy this star at many places and make a group. Now make the other star. To make
the other star look at the steps below:

33. Copy this star as well at many places and make a group. We’ll make one more star which
will be just the gradient circle. We’ll copy that as well at many places and make a group.
Now after copying our stars will look something like this.

34. Now place this group on the background that was made.

35. After placing give the group of stars a screen effect by going in the transparency
window, as you can see in the image.

36. After putting the effects our image will look something like this.

37. To color the background let’s take a box similar to the size of the background.

38. Now take the mesh tool and fill the green color on the side.

39. Similarly fill the red color in the side.

40. One by one put 2 more colors on the upper part.

41. Now place this colored box on the background.

42. After placing the colored box go to transparency and select the overlay option.

43. After selecting the overlay option our image will look like this.

44. Now our background is complete.

45. Our speaker and our background are also ready. So let us place speaker on the image to
give the final look.
