1. What are the disadvantages of a one-sided conversation, or one in which one person
does most of the talking? Is it proper for a person to dominate a conversation by talking
most of the time? Explain.
An ideal conversation should be a matter of equal give and take. When a person
does not have the chance to talk and share insights, that person might feel
unappreciated and want to have a conversation with you again. Dominating a
conversation is sometimes not good because taking turns in conversations will
enable a person to listen and allow to share more relevant and well-constructed
ideas.

1. Psychologists have argued for decades about how a person’s character is formed.
Numerous psychologists believe that one’s birth order (i.e. place in the family as the
youngest, oldest, or middle child) has the greatest influence. Birth order can have a
significant impact in the formation of a child’s character. It can strongly affect one’s
relationship with parents, relationships with others, and how one views responsibility as
an adult.

2. When I was young, I always knew that I wanted to become a teacher someday. When I
played, I would often gather my dolls together and pretend to teach them how to do
math problems or how to read a book. As I grew older my desire to become and ESL
teacher became clearer as I did some volunteer teaching overseas. As I look back on
my reasons for becoming a teacher, there are three reasons that stand out. They are,
my love for the English language, my innate interest in how people learn, and my desire
to help other people.
A teacher shows love for the English language, gives interest in how people
learn, and desires to help other people.
3. For most of my life I have lived with bad health, smelly clothes, and a chronic cough.
My children and husband begged me to stop the habit that caused these conditions, but
I couldn’t. The habit of smoking had wrapped its addicting arms around me and was
slowly strangling me until one day I realized I had to stop. This realization came after
three terrifying events occurred in my family, one a heart attack, two family members
threatened to hide the contraband and three it became harder and harder to exercise.
The realization that smoking is not healthy to my body and my life came when a
family member had a heart attack, family members threatened to hide the
contraband, and it became harder and harder to exercise.
5. Don’t meddle with old unloaded firearms, they are the most deadly and unerring things
ever created. You don’t have to take any pains with them at all; you don’t have to have
a rest, you don’t have to have any sights on the gun, you don’t have to take aim even.
No, you just pick out a relative and bang away, and you are sure to get him. A youth
who can’t hit a cathedral at thirty yards with a Gatling gun in three-quarters of an hour,
can take up an old empty musket and bag his grandmother every time at a hundred.
---Mark Twain, “Advice to Youth”
Mark Twain describes the story of the boy who almost shoots his grandmother
with what he thought was an unloaded gun.

injuries 75% of the time. By cushioning the head upon impact, a helmet can reduce
accidental injury by as much as 85%, saving the lives of hundreds of victims annually,
half of whom are school children.
Proper use of helmet can help reduce bicycling fatalities and accidental injuries
of riders, most especially school children.
2. Most medical people hated the press, because reporters tended to believe every over-
eager scientist or naive country doctor who thought he had a cure for something.
Newspapers often over-played legitimate news, got their facts wrong, and interfered in
the lives and practices of busy professionals. Doctors became deeply suspicious of
what they read in the newspapers and less-carefully edited medical journals, therefore
were skeptical about insulin in countries like Britain because it seemed the Americans
were always curing everything.
Most of the people from the medical field hate reporters who believes in
nonfactual news about finding a cure for something.
3. Death rates for males are substantially higher than for females for every age group of
children and youth, but the largest difference occurs among teens, ages 15 to 19.

Direction: Look at the picture below. What can you say about it? Describe the picture using
your holistic and partial thinking. (10pts)
Criteria: Content - 5pts, Grammar- 3pts, Neatness- 2pts
The picture shows the releasing of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) to prevent the
spread of virus in the jail. This is due to the lack of good facilities in the prison. There are also
detainees who have already died due to the virus while many tested positive. This is alarming
because they cannot practice the health protocols imposed by the authorities most especially
social distancing when they are crowded in one place. There is also poor ventilation and
inadequate sanitation which leads to the spreading of the infectious disease. On the other
side, these persons will be at risk because they are more exposed to people outside and there
is a high chance that they will be getting the virus. In the picture above, the virus is waiting for
them in the real world. It is much better for them to be freed because they have the chance to
prevent and be safe inside their homes.

7. What are your limitations as a person? What are the things that you consider as difficult or
hard for you to accomplish or believe in? (5pts)
My limitations as a person are doing what is not right. We have the freedom to do what
we want but we must make sure that we are not doing any harm to other people or
things. I believe that are no hard or difficult situation to accomplish for as long as you
have the determination and positivity to do it. It also depends on the human person to
cope with it.
8. How can you transcend or go beyond from your current limitations? (5pts)
We make no progress if we stay in our comfort zones. If you want to transcend yourself,
you need to have something to aim for and set realistic goals and targets. Do not limit
yourself with what you only have. Try to explore and go beyond the beauty of your life.
Learn what motivates you the most and embrace the greater things in life. Rise above
what is ordinary and go beyond what you thought is impossible for you to do. Take the
risk and see what’s good is ahead of you.
