LESSON 7: Techniques and Performance Practices Applied to Contemporary Arts

Lesson Proper
Contemporary art differs from modern and traditional art, relevant to ask if different methods
should be used for teaching. In contemporary times, more and more artists are trying to find new
innovative ways to express themselves .Many contemporary Filipino artists turn to their cultural
heritage and indigenous materials for inspiration. The results are often exciting and surprising. These
artworks are certainly avant-garde and yet rooted in Filipino culture.
Contemporary Visual Arts- Artists can be inspired by many factors. Their work is dedicated by the
combination of these elements that most of the time , even if the subject is the same, the output varies
from one another.

I. Importance of Different Art Forms

Art in various cultures serve important function. It is through different forms that we can
mirror the past of any civilization, and in terms of culture and heritage, art is very
important .

Three Techniques Most Relevant to Contemporary Arts


a. Minimalism- one of the artistic movements that has been most relevant throughout
the contemporary art movement.

b. Found Objects- taking something that people view is useless , and then using it in a
technique way in order to make artwork is one of the most important movements that
currently exist in contemporary artwork.

something huge to express diverse perspectives in artwork is incredibly popular even
today.

II. Integrative art as Applied to Contemporary Arts


This practice refers to the inter- disciplinary art for research, development, production,
presentation, or artistic creation of work that fully uses two or more art disciplines to
create
a work for a specific audienc

Contemporary Art Production


Produced in the half of the 20 th century or in the 21 st century, a dynamic combination
of materials, methods, concepts, concepts and subjects that continue the challenging of boundaries
that was already well underway in the 20th century.

Activity
Direction: Create an art applied to contemporary art in a bond paper.and share your ideas about your
design to the class.

Evaluation
Direction: Give your reactions why artists create and attributes to integral art as his best exemplified
by the following situations.
1. Herbert doodles on his notebooks while listening to his teacher.
2. Everybody in class helped out in painting a mural outside the classroom.
3. Richard creates mobiles using used plastic straws.

Lesson 8 : Local Materials Used in Contemporary Arts

I.Motivation

Local materials like bamboo is primarily used in creating a singkaban , most prevalent in the old
towns of Hagonoy and Malolos. They include the sculpture and the artists who work in three
dimensional media ,painters, photographers, video and installation artists. They make use of materials
and media such as wood, paper, paint, milk, rice, pollen, wax, plaster, stone, glass, metal, plastics,
photos, slides, videos, and computers.

II. Local Material


Locally available materials of a region like timbre, stone, sand, etc. are considered as local
materials. In various green building certifications increase the project’s sustainable quotients and lead
to some points gained.
Indigenous Materials are naturally and locally found in a specific place such as timbers, canes,
grass, palms, and rattan.

III. List of Common Handicrafts

I. Lesson 9: Materials and Appropriate Techniques


I. Motivation
Because an artist will handle materials in different ways, different modes of expression are more
appropriate to one technique than another considering the expressive character of a brush and ink
drawing. An art critique is a detailed analysis and evaluation of a work of art.

Four Basic Steps


Involving an Art Criticism
a. Look at the obvious
In the course of your daily life, you’ll most likely have to provide others with some
general information about yourself, such as name, address, or school.
b. Analyze the artwork
Describe the piece of an art in terms of its subject matter, color, and style. Check out the
Color palette, which is a spectrum of colors used by the artist. .Look at the style of a particular type
of
movement.
c. Decide on the interpretation
After you examined the artwork , the public would like to hear what you think is going on in the
painting. Sometimes your interpretation may be more straightforward or calling some attention to a
hidden meaning.
d. Make a judgement call
Last, but not at least, an art critic needs to make a judgement call. You need to ask yourself if the
work was successful, never personal , an art of interpreting whether it communicates a message to the
audience.

GLOSSARY
Melodramas are nonmusical plays whose intention was to tears and emotional attachment to the
characters.
Dramatic monologue is a type of play wherein an individual acts, speaks, and acts out his character’s
thoughts and emotions.
Tula-dula or play poem is when a poem is dramatized by a narrator who recites the piece and two or
three actors providing the movement and the sound effects.
Political theater is a form of theater whose intention is to transform or make better the current system
of government.
Musical theater are plays wherein music is an essential part of the production.
Realism is a type of drama that provides an accurate depiction of real-life situations.
