Purpose
This document is intended for sharing the information with IBM for the ILM Re-
evaluation procedure in GAM 1.1.3.

ILM Re-evaluation Overview

ILM Re-evaluation is a process that runs on the Control Node re-evaluating all existing
content in the database using the current ILM policy. The ILM Re-evaluation process is
designed to be throttled against the file ingesting rate. Time required for completing an
ILM Re-evaluation varies depending on the nature of the deployment, the data in the
Control Node Database, the complexity of the current ILM and the file ingest load on the
grid.
Perform ILM Re-evaluation
1. Access the console of the Control Node:
• Press <Alt>+<F1> to access a new command shell session on the server.
• Enter the account name: root
• Enter the password for the node provided in Passwords.txt
2. Change the directory to /usr/local/cms/cms
3. Use the vim or nano editor to open cms.opt file:
vi cms.opt
OR
nano cms.opt

4. Append the following line to cms.opt file:

--ilm-rules-verification="<STRING>" where <STRING> should as usual be a
unique string. For example:
dc-cs1-rg1-g1:/usr/local/cms/cms # vi cms.opt

5. Save the file after editing.

6. Log out of the command shell session. Enter: exit
7. Press <Alt>+<F7> to return to the Server Manager interface.
8. Select ‘Restart’ to restart the Control Node services.
9. When prompted, enter the Server Manager password, as found in the
Passwords.txt file.
10. Repeat from step 1 to step 9 to update each Control Node in the grid.
Monitor ILM Re-evaluation
The ILM Re-evaluation process can be monitored from the NMS under CMS-> Content.
