One of the seven threats of Ethics is the unreasonable demands.

When we say unreasonable demands,

it means that someone is acting unfairly or doing something that is difficult to justify. It is like knowing
the commands or rules imposed but we are having a hard time to make it in reality.

Unreasonable demands tend to reject ethics. This threat believes that there are demands in
ethics that are not applicable to follow. People might say that “love your enemies rather than hating
them”, it is easy to talk about it but it is hard to follow especially when that enemy brought a huge scar
in your heart. Others might also say “to live an ethical life, you have to be honest and build trust to other
people” but you are trapped in a situation where you have to lie for good and that is what we called
white lies. Do not judge others, be polite and never curse, these are just few of the many commands we
are supposedly to follow. Another thing is morality demands us that always do the right thing to survive
or do the proper ways for your living but there is that one thing we called the “end justifies the means”,
it means that there are other people for example, making their money to sustain their needs in a wrong
way or works that are unethical. For other people who do such thing may think that it is good because it
is their way to live. In addition, we have this one thing called “Dirty hands’ which means to involve in
something unfair. This is related to unreasonable demands because you justify your doings specifically
inappropriate acts because you know in yourself that others are also violating ethics. My point here is,
this threat tells us that ethics is useless. We do not need to bother ourselves in studying ethics since its
demands are tough to practice in real-life situations. Learning ethics is a waste of time because if
morality demands, our natural reaction will still not to mind this command.

In my perspective, however, ethics does not have unreasonable demands. Studying ethics does
not mean that we have to live perfectly. What we really need is not to diregard ethics because if we
cannot practice in real life the other demands, then there are still many commands that we can
somehow follow. To live an ethical life is not always living like a God. Maybe we commit mistakes and
sometimes choose to do the different way especially when you are thorn in a situation, but still, it is not
a good reason to not learn ethics because ethics makes us whole.
