This is the fifth Kural in the chapter AÁõ AÖzuÀ - freedom from
desires.
AØÓÁº Gߣõº AÁõAØÓõº
It means, the one who is free from desires, is alone free from the
cycle of birth and death.
AØÓÁº means, one who is free from desires. If one should not be
born again, one should be totally free from desires.
The bodily attachments and worldly attachments, lead to
happiness, that is mixed with sorrow.
AØÓÁº can also be interpreted as - the one free from sorrow. We
should carry out our responsibilities properly, without fail.
At the same time, we must learn to handle our desires and
expectations. If a person is unable to handle his desires and
expectations, it leads to more and more sorrow.
Then, our duties will get affected - there will be stress, fatigue
(L£iU) and lack of motivation.
Thus, we have to handle our desires very carefully. Generally, in
life, we have desire for something. We develop expectations, towards
that desire. The more stronger the expectations, more is the sorrow.
We should work with happiness. We should never forget this.
Thus, we can understand that, the one who is able to handle one’s
desires and expectations is free from sorrow.
For the word AØÓÁº, - Freedom from the cycle of birth and death
- is the actual meaning given, by men of wisdom.
But, we can interpret this Kural, in a suitable manner, which will
help us, in handling our situations in worldly life.

The rest of the people - they may have given up their attachments
- but, even if desire is present to a very small extent, it will not lead to
liberation. They will not have freedom from the cycle of births and deaths.
In the worldly angle, we can interpret ©ØøÓ¯õº as the ones with
bundles of desires and expectations, for whom sorrow is unavoidable.
If we have to happily do our duties properly, we have to learn to
manage our desires and expectations. Every action will definitely produce
a result. But the result, may not come instantly. The results may come
after some time. Thus, we have to be patient.
We have to work with passion and involvement. At the same time,
we should learn to handle our desires and expectations. With noble
intentions, we have to contribute our maximum to the society.
This is a very simple Kural. We have to understand its essential
meaning properly.
If we have to be free from sorrow, we should learn to intelligently
handle our desires and expectations.
For those, who are unable to handle their desires and expectations,
restlessness and sorrow are unavoidable.
This is the meaning of this Kural.
