Career Planning Process


Below is the Career Planning Process chart. With each step, take some time
to think and answer the questions as it pertains to you individually.

Step 1: Personal assessment


 Determine interests and values
 Identify talents and abilities
1. What are your interests? Sports
2. What are your values? Communication, Respect, and Family
3. What are your talents? School, Sports
4. What are your abilities? I can run long distance
5. What are some jobs related to your interest areas? Coaches
6. What education or training is required for each of these jobs? College Degree

Step 2: Employment market analysis

Step 3: Application process

2. Complete a resume pertaining to you (after it is discussed in class).
3. Complete a generic cover letter pertaining to you (after it is discussed in class).

Step 4: Interview process


 Prepare for interview
 Follow-up activities

- Prepare questions to ask

- Practice Time
- Prepare answers for concise questions
- Ask Friends to help you
- Attend workshops on interviewing skills
- Work to organize your ideas
- Speak Clearly and Calmly
- Be sure to communicate enthusiasm first impression
- Arrive On time
- Dress Appropriately
- Make sure you know how to get to the interview location
- Give yourself plenty of time to get there
- Go alone to the interview
- Even if someone else is providing transportation
- Wear clothing that is appropriate for the company and the job which you are
applying for

that is interviewing you? Shake their hand and look them in the eye
3. How should you answer the questions you are asked in an interview? Answer Clearly in a
controlled manner
4. What should you avoid doing during an interview? Talking too fast or getting off
subject. Don’t ask unprofessional questions.
5. What should you do at the end of an interview before you leave the business? Thank
them and get their business card
6. What should you do after an interview, within a day or two, regardless of whether you
get the job or not? Send a Thank you Card

In regards to the financial perspective, what should you do when you are offered a job
position and the salary?
Consider several factors before accepting or declining

What are some of the employee benefits that may be offered with a job position? List at
least 5. Insurance, Vacation Time, retirement programs, Free parking, and discount gym
membership
What are 3 things regarding benefits that you should ask about? Leadership Style, Insurance,
and Retirement Programs
What are the 4 things that should be explored in regards to an organizational environment?
Leadership Style, Dress Code, Physical Workspace, and Social Atmosphere
What type of work environment are you interested in? Social Atmosphere and Great
Leadership Style.

 Develop strong work relationships
What are 4 things to consider with career development and advancement? Always Think,
Speak, Dress, and act in ways that project a positive.
