Nashua native, Lisa
Garsjo Thievin (NHS 1978),
recently recorded a 5-song
album while in Scottsdale,
Arizona.
Lisa is the daughter
of former north Nashua
farmers Hartvik and Agnes
Garsjo. She married Scobey
native Willie Thievin.
This her second time in
a recording studio. Thievin
recorded an album in
Nashville in 1990, which was
produced by former Scobey
musician, Gordy Collins and
was encouraged by many
followers to do another
album. She didn’t expect
that to happen 30 years later!
Lisa was the morning DJ
at KCGM in Scobey in the
early 1990s, and then worked
at Nemont for 20 years
before joining her husband
Willie in 2013 owning/
operating “Willie’s Farm
Repair” in Scobey. Willie
and Lisa had their own band
in the 90s playing all around
northeast Montana nearly
every weekend (Note from

Going Poppyless, hoping for support
VFW Post 3107’s annual poppy drive will be
poppyless this year. Due to the COVID 19 restrictions
we can’t distribute poppies on the street corners. Cans
will be placed in businesses on Friday November 6th
and again without poppies.
All donations will be to replenish our Veterans Relief
Fund which is used to help local veterans and veterans
families in need. Wear your virtual poppy proudly or

Veterans Breakfast cancelled
The annual Veteran’s Day Breakfast sponsored
by GHS Student Council and Albertsons will not take
place this year.
GHS Student Council adviser Rod Karst said that
after visiting with Art Widhalm, it was decided to not
take a chance with the health of our older Veterans. The
Student Council kids are disappointed that this event
won’t take place this year, but they’ll will be back next
year!
Thanksgiving Day Dinner cancelled
Due to the coronavirus pandemic the Annual
Valley County Thanksgiving Day Dinner has been
cancelled. This would have been the 30th year for the
traditional dinner. Thank you for understanding and
we look forward to serving everyone in 2021.

Scotties wins district crown

It was no surprise that Glasgow would sweep through
the District 2B volleyball tournament. The only question
was who they would play and if the matches would be
sweeps.
Glasgow answered those questions by sweeping
Poplar and Wolf Point to win the 2B championship and
taking home the gold Friday.
Another unanswered question was how well would
the girls perform without any fans cheering them onto
victory as there were no fans or pep bands allowed at the
tournament.
“We had the first match of the tournament and it was
a little tough to get rolling in the first game because the
gym was so quiet,” Coach Somer Hoerster said. “Poplar
scored a few points on us to start the game. Once we
decided the noise was going to come from all of us, the
girls got rolling and never looked back.”
The girls had to treat the match like a practice where
you have no fans or band. But at practice you sometimes
have music.
“They had a nice match against Poplar and waited
around for the day and came back later that night to play
Wolf Point,” said Hoerster. “We really finished well against
Wolf Point.”
Even without fans in the stands watching and
cheering the girls kept their focus on what they needed to
do.
“We didn’t have the normal tournament environment
which is too bad because the kids really thrive on the pep
bands, the other teams,” the coach said. “It’s fun to play for
a crowd and when you don’t have that, it was really bazaar
the first 15 points or so because it was so quiet.”
The Scotties will take on Conrad at 9:30 a.m. in a first
round match in Conrad.
The Scotties are hoping to get a rematch with Fairfield,
a team they lost to in the first match out the season.
“That’s what we’re hoping for,” said Hoerster. “We
lost a tough match to them in the very first match of the
season. We won the first two games and then took our foot
off the gas pedal and let our errors come back to bite us.
That’s the match we have talked about all season that we
wanted back. We’re not scared of them. They’re athletic,
they’re well coached and it’s going to come down to who
fights harder and who plays a cleaner match.”
Hoerster added that the girls have to get past Conrad
before they get a chance to clip the Eagles wings. She said
the Cowgirls have a couple 6-footers on the squad, but the
Scotties have played Glendive and Plentywood, both have
some tall girls on their teams.
“We’ve been watching film and the girls have been
doing their homework of watching film and taking
notes and seeing how we stack up against them,” said
Hoerster. “I expect us to be prepared.”
Choteau defeated Fairfield to claim the District 1B
crown, while Shelby beat Conrad for third place.
