This course is intended for anyone who will be directly involved in the Design and Engineering
of SYSTIMAX Structured Cabling Systems. The primary audiences are SYSTIMAX
BusinessPartners, Connectivity Solutions technical support personnel and account managers
and ‘end users’ involved in design and specification of SYSTIMAX SCS.

Main Course description

ND3321 – SYSTIMAX SCS Design & Engineering

The focus is on the design of each SYSTIMAX SCS subsystem design for PowerSUM,
GigaSPEED® XL & X10D, VisiPatch™, LazrSPEED®, OptiSPEED® and TeraSPEED™
requirements. SYSTIMAX SCS products and components are reviewed in terms of selection
and use. The Commercial aspects and advantages of product choice is covered in detail.
Industry standards such as ISO/IEC 11801, TIA/EIA 568B, EN 50173 are included in this
course for review and impact on design. Throughout the course, key design requirements for
the SYSTIMAX performance and warranty are raised and discussed.

• Designing for both attenuation and bandwidth limited applications
• Positioning, designing and working with the LC in Simplex and Duplex connector
• SYSTIMAX fiber power budgets, administration and interoperability, mode conditioning
• Current GigaSPEED XL & X10D channel designs – minimum distances, maximum
distances. CP’s, MUTOA’s and component selection and interoperability
• SYSTIMAX SCS Building Automation Solutions
• Current OSP (Outside Plant) designs and component selection
• VisiPatch latest products design and installation procedures
• Current Best Working Practices (BWP’s) and Mandatory design requirements for
registration:-

- Cable containment specification for GigaSPEED XL & X10D - baskets, trays etc.
- Power separation to SYSTIMAX SCS and relevant national codes
- SYSTIMAX Cable Management requirements
- SYSTIMAX Optical power budgets expected post installation

• The common SYSTIMAX SCS design & registration requirements

• Recommended Testing practices for GigaSPEED XL, X10D & LazrSPEED systems to
ensure installation consistency and quality

The theory is backed by a series of design workshops that include:

• SYSTIMAX recommended designs & capacities for ‘green field sites’
• Architectural Issues, (Containment design to support SYSTIMAX Infrastructures)
• SYSTIMAX horizontal designs & selection for copper & fiber (inc. CP’s, MUTOA’s)
• SYSTIMAX backbone designs & selection for copper & fiber
• SYSTIMAX campus design & selection for copper & fiber (inc. surge protection)
• SYSTIMAX administration design & selection (inc. Inter & Cross Connects, 110, VisiPatch,
modular including UMP, latest fiber administration systems)
• SYSTIMAX fiber designs & performance specification with OptiSPEED, TeraSPEED &
LazrSPEED

Successful completion:
• Is based upon full attendance and successful participation in the workshops and feedback
sessions

ND3300 - SYSTIMAX SCS Overview

This is the first course in the SYSTIMAX curriculum and is a prerequisite for ND3321 &
ND3341. It provides an introduction to SYSTIMAX SCS as a total wiring solution for voice, data
and video applications found in today’s modern buildings. Students receive information about
the structure of the system and how the various applications can be supported in compliance
with the current standards. THIS COURSE IS INCLUDED IN THE THREE DAYS.
