GUIDELINES FOR TV BROADCAST SCRIPT WRITING AND NEWS CASTING

(English and Filipino)

A. PRE-CONTEST

1. Each team shall be composed of seven (7) members who shall act as news anchors, news writer,
field reporter, technical director, spinner or music director, director/producer, editor,
videographer.

Note: Any members can assume more than one role as long as this will not conflict the outcome
of the broadcast.

2. The team must bring their own equipment, and materials such as:
a. Laptop
b. Flash drive
c. Digital Camera or phone camera, with a USB cord for the live field report
d. Extension Cord
e. Marker
f. Manila paper

3. There will be an orientation before the contest proper to brief them about the skills exhibition or
delivery, guidelines, roles of participants and criteria for judging. All participants shall attend the
orientation.

B. CONTEST PROPER

1. The format for TV broadcast script including audio and video shall be followed.

2. Three hours is allotted for the teams for video research and broadcast script writing. This will
include the headlines, news reports, and the live video coverage.

3. Another one hour will be allotted for rehearsals and finalization of all materials.

4. Once the scriptwriting has started, no member shall be allowed to leave the contest area. In case
of personal purposes, a member of the contest management (proctor) shall accompany the
participant.

5. The teams shall have the following in their news broadcast:


a. ONE National News: The evaluator will provide (3) news articles with their corresponding
audio and video materials. The scriptwriter shall choose only one news article and the audio
video material that they will use in their script.
b. ONE International News: The evaluator will provide (3) international news articles with their
corresponding audio and video materials. The scriptwriter shall choose only one news article
and the audio video material that they will use in their script.

c. ONE Showbiz News: The evaluator will provide (3) showbiz news articles with their
corresponding audio and video materials. The scriptwriter shall choose only one news article
and the audio video material that they will use in their script.

d. ONE Field Report: The evaluator will provide a local news beat and the report must be
delivered live but the video support will be pre-produced. Video shoot must be done within
the time allotted for the contestants.

e. ONE Infomercial: This should be original which will tackle any social, environmental or
cultural issue containing an audio and video component.

f. HEADLINES: This will contain the brief presentation of the headline of the national,
international, field report, and showbiz news. They can present these headlines in a more
effective way.

g. OBB/CBB: Opening Billboard and Closing Billboard will contained the group’s assumed TV
network name. This can be pre-produced or presented live. The script for the OBB/CBB shall
be included in the main script which will be submitted to the judges.

6. Late submission of scripts will merit corresponding deductions. There will be a 1 point deduction
for the script in every 3 minutes.

7. The cover page or the crew sheet shall contain the group’s name (assumed TV network name),
and the name of the participant and their corresponding roles in the production.

C. TV BROADCAST SKILLS EXHIBITION

1. The order of presentation shall be determined by drawing lots.

2. The TV Broadcast Total Running Time (TRT) will be five (5) minutes.

3. After 5 minutes, the presenting team may continue its broadcast. However, a corresponding
deduction will be given. A team that delivers the broadcast under time will also be given a
corresponding deduction.

4. One (1) point shall be deducted garnered by the team for the first fifteen (15) seconds over or
under time and another one (1) point for every fifteen (15) seconds over or under time thereafter.

5. The decision of the board of judges is FINAL and IRREVOCABLE.
