Lesson Summary:
This Lesson is built to expands kids horizons. After a lesson on what to do kids will have their own computer
or i pad to take pictures on and will be required to take at least 7 pictures of nature. it can be of (leafs, trees, the
sky, rocks, animals) anything you find outside. Once they have taken their pictures they will need to create a a
story as if the item they took a picture of was alive. They will paste the picture into a word doc then type their
story up next to it. They will then share their pictures and one story to the class.

Estimated Duration:
Five 30 minute class periods

Commentary:
I see the coming up with a story and putting the pictures onto a document being a problem. They may have
trouble finding their creative side at fist but once they have they will be able to make a story for their picture. I
will "hook" my students by getting them excited about using the technology along with showing them the
different kinds of pictures they could take.

Instructional Procedures:
Day 1:
Students will learn about creative writing and by this I mean what it means to be creative and how to come up
with different scenarios. They will practice coming up with their own stories so they can get a feel of how to
write.
Then students will be explained the project they are about to do. They will be told they will need a camera or
Ipad to capture pictures on. It has to be of nature and a minimum of 7 pictures. They will be told they have the
weekend to complete this part of the assignment. Then we will get into how we are going to paste our pictures
onto a document and make a creative story based on the picture that they took. So each picture will be laid out
on the page and next to each picture they must come up with a short story of what the picture is about.
Teachers will also have to provide an example of the project for kids to look back on if they get confused.
Day 2:
For the next week when the students come back with their pictures we will then start the process in class. They
will all be on the computers and moving their pictures on their document by emailing it to themselves with
help of course. Once the pictures are up then the students will start to make their story for each picture. They
will repeat this process until they have finished for the next few days and then on Thursday the kids will be
required to share one picture and story to the class.

Pre-Assessment:
Before the fist lesson the teacher will ask a serious of questions to see what a child knows about nature and
creative writing. Then they will be explained what it is and how to use it. throughout the assignment the
students will be given the opportunity to show what they know.
Scoring Guidelines:
Teachers will look over each students work and determine if they have met the requirements and how well
they did on their story. They will also grade them based of the presentation they give with sharing their story to
the class. They will be graded based on their creative skills, spelling, and the effort put into the photos along
with the story.
Post-Assessment:
After the assignment students should be able to define creative writing and write a creative story. The
assignment will show the teacher how well they understood the assignment and the concepts of it. They will
give a presentation of their writing and that will show the teacher how well they understood the project.
Scoring Guidelines:
The students will get a graded score of a letter grade. I will be able to grade each student by the
presentation they give and how well they presented along with how well their story is. It will be graded
on creativity and grammar and spelling.
Differentiated Instructional Support
This could be changed by using a talk box to say the story without having to actually write on it. Another way
could be having the child tell their story and an adult writing it for them. Reading books or giving a list of
different words or sentences could help.
Something that could substitute this project would be reading creative stories others have wrote. Students
could also tell a creative story they came up with themselves.

This site will give kids an idea on how to brainstorm for their creative story about their picture along with
some examples and ideas for them to use.

Homework Options and Home Connections

The homework that will be assigned for this will be taking the picture of the nature and they will have the
weekend to get at least 7 pictures of their lesson. They will also need to finished whatever they don't finish in
class. So if they need to complete one of their stories that they didn't finish at school they will have to do it at
home.

Interdisciplinary Connections
If I had to strengthen two more subject areas it would be English and expanding their vocabulary and another
one would be science due to being outdoors and seeing all the nature and getting to explore it. This will expand
their horizons and allow them to learn writing skills, and learn more about nature and what nature looks like
and can do for us.
