Missouri State Fair Marketing / Publicity Internship

The Missouri State Fair has up to three full-time summer intern positions
within their Marketing & Publicity Office. The positions start early- to
mid-June and will run through the 11-day fair, August 11-21, 2011,
in Sedalia, Missouri.

Skills Needed:
Candidate should have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal
skills with computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Word Suite
including Excel and Publisher. Candidate must possess a positive
attitude and a willingness to learn. This is a fast-paced office with a
wide variety of activities. Candidate must possess a desire to be part
of a TEAM that has FUN while getting the job done. Will require some
weekend work. Candidate must possess a valid Missouri Drivers license.

Duties may include:


• Media Relations
• Special Event Planning
• Public Relations Activities including Extensive Press Release Writing
• Social Media
• Telephone, E-mail and Direct Mail Communications
• Communication with Multiple Publics
• Promotion Materials Design
• Distribution of Promotional Materials
• General Office Work
• Other duties as assigned

Pay and Benefits:


This is an entry level position, offering an average of 32 hours a week and 40+ hours a
week during the 11-day Fair that pays minimum wage, currently $7.25 an hour. It can
include free housing, which consists of one bedroom and bathroom. Candidate may
bring microwave and small dorm-room-size refrigerator. Limited meals may be
provided during the 11-day Fair. This job does not qualify for any additional benefits.

Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Internship
The Missouri State Fair Youth In Agriculture Committee has one
internship position that will be supervised within the Missouri State
Fair’s Marketing & Publicity Office. The position requires attendance
of Youth In Agriculture committee meetings which are generally held
in Sedalia every other month, starting in April 2011. Full-time work will
start August 8 and run through the 11-day fair, August 11-21, 2011,
in Sedalia, Missouri.

Skills Needed:
Candidate should have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Candidate must possess a positive attitude and a motivation to learn.
Candidate must have proficiency with using Microsoft Power Point,
Excel and Word. The candidate must be accommodating and be a
self-starter. Candidate must have a valid Missouri Drivers license.

Duties may include:


1. Meet with each Grand & Reserve Grand Champion winners– interview and get essential
information
2. Write feature story for statewide press release, and press releases for all Grand and
Reserve Grand Champion winners
3. Contact local media and schedule interviews of exhibitors
4. Assist exhibitors with calls to hometown supporters
5. Keep an accurate accounting of all hometown support pledged and/or paid.
6. Assist with coordinating decorations for the sale
7. Assist with coordinating Buyers’ Reception
8. Coordinate Trams on the day of the Sale of Champions
9. Develop Sale of Champions program and coordinate plaques & ribbons
10. Create power point presentation for Sale of Champions program
11. Assist in writing script for Auctioneer and Master of Ceremonies
12. Write script for presentations at Director’s Dinner
13. Write thank you letters to Sponsors
14. Write thank you cards to media from Youth in Agriculture Committee
15. Other duties as assigned

Pay and Benefits:


The position pays $500.00 and the candidate may qualify to receive a full scholarship for the
AFA convention. Lodging in MSF Youth dormitory is available and a stipend for meals will be
provided. This job does not qualify for any additional benefits.
